Saw this and it reminded me that several folk on here have had the knobs chewed off their ovens. Hope this wasn't any of you, and please be careful if you have chewers!

I have always thought the dog could turn the knob accidentally if he jumped up to look on the stove/worktop - always switch it off at the wall, whether we are in or out!!

well my 2 have done everything else to the house they may aswell burn it down next,
jokes they not that bad now tho ellie does have her moments,
i can see how it could happen or one paw on the knob of my cooker and heaven forbid mine could gas us all,

My Dobe once turned on the gas on the stove. I was only out for 20 mins but when I came back the whole house stank of gas. I was soooo lucky that everyone was ok.  Now I don't keep the knobs on the cooker at all, I put them on when I'm using it and take them off again after. 

Wow,that's scary.Time to invent a dog-proof cooker.I can only use the back rings at the moment because i'm worried my girl will burn her paws or knock a pan for six and scald herself and someone else.

I once came home and the house stank of gas. My son had come home before me and not noticed.  There had been a pan left on the hob and sacha had obviously tried to reach it and had turned on the gas ring. I now make sure that there nothing tempting left on the hob.

Last october my, then, 5 month old pup jumped up and turned on the cooker while we were out, he had also dragged something onto the hob and we came back to find the house on fire.
My boy thankfully was unharmed but the kitchen had to be gutted and the whole house cleaned and decorated. In fact the smoke damage was so bad we couldn't live in it for 3 weeks.
I have left my dogs in the kitchen for many years when going out and it just never occured to me.

I'm glad no-one was hurt and your house didn't burn down,but smoke damage is unbelievable.It gets absolutely everywhere.At least a couple of years after we had a kitchen fire(no-one was hurt TG)and we'd cleaned and painted and papered everything in sight we were finding smudges of soot in little corners and out of the way places we'd missed.

One of my puppy buyers (in fact own two of my breeding) had their cats turn on the hob where they had left a pan on and this caused a fire in the kitchen.

My mum's german shepherd jumped up and turned on the cooker knob leaving a nice whiff of gas which fortunately my mum smelt before any damage.

As a result my dad got a foot long piece of wood the same depth as the cooker knobs and cut four holes in it so it sits on top of the four knobs so now when the hairy one jumps up she can't push any thing down as the wood prevents her doing so!

Dad's are clever eh?

This happened to someone I know.  Their (newly rescued) G.S.D. had jumped up to check out what was ontop of the cooker, on the way down he turned the cooker on.  The firebrigade said this was the cause.  The main pint of fire was where the pot that was on the cooker had burned its way through the floor.  The family had to be out of the house for months.

It's just amazing how the dogs aren't hurt,it doesn't bear thinking about.

this is why i always switch my oven off at the wall when im not using it.

I know someone whose dog jumps up on the kitchen worktop and turns on the tap when they are out.  Not good when you are on a meter.

Wow, mine have turned the audible alert on with the tumbledryer (that always makes me jump when it goes off!) but I never really thought about the oven!

we turn off our electric cooker when not in use as the dogs keep turning the rings on, especially the puppy.

Treacle used to regularly turn the gas on on our hob when she was counter surfing - fortunately my back door is usually open so the gas could escape. We put a tupperware box over the knobs til she outgrew her little habit!
