I wonder if anyone can help me please?
Living in Scotland in a small countryside village I have a stable door which is open for approx 14hours a day...Yes We do Shiver!
How do we stop the flies coming in? any ideas on what to buy or use?
Its started already  three today so far & I just hate them, Plus we have 12 dogs at the moment with the pups and son & daughter in law are on their hols and we have their too...Poop Pardise is what the flies like dont they!
p.s I pick up constant!!

similar problem here.. and have just ordered a chain link fly screen.. not cheap (app £90 for mine) but apparently they do work.  price is on measurement, and are made to measure, so you could just use them for the top part of stable door (they will also cut down on the draught :-) )

I went into a nearby town yesterday and this is what the Fishmonger uses, went in and had a little chat with him, and it works, and is Environmental Health approved

Thank you...going to enquire right now!
I have tried the net style (which looks similar) but it would not let the door close! so need to make sure, but I am willing to give anything ago if it at least stops a few a day.
Let me know please how you get on...thanks again

Hi Pamb, do we not get screen doors over here?  Like they do in America?  I'll need to have a look at some sort of gly screen as living in Scotland, with a minky brook at the bottom of the garden, we are having a lot of midgies emerging :-)  I'm in the process of growing some carniverous house plants though so the midgies and flies may not be a problem for much longer ;-)

Hi thanks...lol...midges here too but after been bitten to death 2 years ago I dont venture out after eight pm as they only surface here around that time, Hubby does the rounds as his blood cant be as sweet as mine!
Thank you I did try the screen but with the stable door it would catch all the time and didnt close too well however I may go to the loft and dig it out to see if we can fit/sort it another way.
What plants are you getting? i could try them too!
thanks for your help & I love your avatior

This is what I've got - just need to get a propagator and plant the seeds.  I might try some other ones though - I just figure it's a better way of getting rid of beasties and flies without spraying everywhere.  It was pretty bad last summer and if this summer is anything like they predict it will be even worse.  We also have a problem with spiders so need to wash the windows where they nest as when they have babies they all crawl in the house.

I am in a similar situation to you pam.. I live on the edge of a forest with a small brook/stream outside my front door.. and the midges just love me.. :-(

I do spray the dogs with a horse spray, which helps, I also spray into the air and run under it before going out.. and I chainsmoke lol.. its helps a little, but still come in with the blighters clinging to my face and hair..

> and I chainsmoke lol

I knew you had a good reason - it's only because of the midges isn't it? :-D

You can get those things - no idea what they're called - but sort of purple electric light things like floodlights, and they zap flies that fly into them - useful if you get a lot indoors. :-)

I've got the purple bulb fly zapper, it works in smaller spaces like my walk in larder but the dogs hate the noise when a fly gets electrocuted & sparks. In the stable I used the old fashioned sticky fly papers, they look disgusting after a few casualties! Would be interested to know if the chain screens work. Had an influx of dozy bluebottles in the cold weather & could NOT work out how they got in my kitchen. Think something got into the cavity wall & expired, yuk.
