i am having a week heavy on the canine spotting! in the last seven days i have seen or met:

a very nice looking gsd
a landseer newfie
an akita
a basset hound
alas many dodgy staffies and a tiny terrier with a death wish (it keeps trying to attack Tio! but bless his improvements he looks at it with distain)
and it turns out there is a delightful little bedlington terrier called jess who gets toileted in the land at our building- i met her and her family yesterday and what a sweet, dainty thing she is :)

anyone else spotted some new dogs about?
- By Goldiemad [gb] Date 18.05.09 20:29 UTC
Funny you should start this. Only yesterday I spotted a lovely looking lurcher that I have never seen before, then this morning saw a gorgeous Shepherd baby being walked past. We don't really get any new passing traffic (human and canine), so said couple must have moved in or possibly be visiting. I confess I did try and catch the GSD baby, but he was too quick. Now I will have my eyes peeled to find out where he lives.

well apart from the over grown population of staffies near me, i spotted a english masstiff, she was adorable! Guy had rescued her from local family  who kept her in the garden all the time and this was their fourth dog that they had got rid off :(

i shall focus on her landing on her paws and not what i would like to do to such people...

A beautiful Deer hound, the first I have ever come across out walking! and a young undocked Weirneramer unusal around here.
I also saw a GSD pup out for her first "proper" walk. She was very sweet and my boys behaved very gentlemanly around her ;-)
- By Goldiemad [gb] Date 18.05.09 22:22 UTC
Ooh everyone seems to be getting a GSD baby, bar me.

I went to a dog show Kim, so ummm, should I just link the Judging Schedule LOL as to what dogs I came in contact with this past week. And I spent most of the week at the vets with the pups, so lots of dogs there as well LOL

But to actually follow the thread, I saw a wonderful Bouvier de Flandres (sp?) the other day walking down the street, an uncommon dog in this area.  And then I am absolutely in love with a friends Brussels Griffon named Muffin.  She is so cute!

I know I would like to spot 1 dog in particular! Someone near us keeps letting their dog out at night so the lazy good for nothings don't have to walk it and it keeps Pooing on my front garden! Grrrrrrrrr :(

There is a new baby collie out on my walk at the mo, he's lovely, and a young (6 mths) white long hared Shepherd who is adorable. I also see occasionally a lady with 3 Tibetan Mastifs, and a chap with 4 wolfhounds.  Rather sadder is the news of the death of Brian a 14 year old foxhound, for the last 10 years he has been immitating the hound of the baskervilles with his baying especially on foggy mornings when all you hear is the WOwww Wowww Wowww filtering through the mist....RIP Biran you were a real Gent, however the owners have a new rescue from Shri-Lanka who was saved from a fate worse than death and she is quite a lady..very "Street-wise"..and she makes 3 from there for them now.

:-( You lot must liv amongst such a variety of dogs. On my walks and local area i just see the more 'common' varities of dogs. Some people dont even know that my dog is a poodle (hardly exotic) as theyve never seen one before!!
- By Tessies Tracey Date 19.05.09 14:20 UTC
Another adorable GSD pup near me too!
A very cute but nutty Lancashire heeler type
Haven't seen my two mad Schnauzers about for a while...
No other new one's that I can think of just now..
though I did see a lady with a CKCS in a buggy yesterday!

Round my area at the moment there seems to be a great increase in strays or roamers because i know they have homes.Dont know if this is the same for anyone else? A Cane Corso amongst one of them which is the local illegal substance dealers dog and his samoyed friend came trundling down our path the other day, the smell of 5 dogs in the property seems to attract the local roamers.

Saw a lovely little whippet 6 months called angel, mason thought she was a cat at first then they played chase for a while. I didnt realise they were so small.

I see a fab little dog being walked passed my house but don't know what breed he is. I think he's some sort of hound as he is the shape of a bassett but has a tan wiry coat.

We have a Pharoah Hound at our local ringcraft, young thing it is.. Never seen one before.

Seen a few puppy GSD's about, seems to be the time for them from reading above.

Nothing else out of the ordinary, but then we have a huge array of different breeds, but nothing i can think of as new.
Bracco's, Spins, Stetters, Labs, Goldies, Sam's, Mals, DDB, Rough Collie, Mastiffs, Dobe's, Rotts. Met a lovely elderly Akita bitch the other day, saw her on my drive home, got home grabbed my boy for a walk, parked up in the hope i would bump into said dog, i did and had a lovely chat with the owner.
Oh get the normal Staff galore as well.. Some are very sweet, but i have to be on my guard, awful really as many are dog aggressive.
- By flora2 [gb] Date 19.05.09 16:47 UTC
That is his double. I had looked at that breed before didn't realise that they could be just one colour. Thankyou
- By Astarte Date 19.05.09 17:14 UTC
no bother :) a very unusual breed indeed!
- By dogs a babe Date 19.05.09 19:05 UTC
Flora2 I see Astarte already gave you a link to the Basset Fauve de Bretagne

Now this is exactly what I'd like to see walking past my house, in fact walking into my house would be better.  I love these guys and this breed has been on my 'one day' list for quite some time!!

I saw an Airedale tonight when I went to pick my daughter up off the train, then at ringcraft we had a Chinese Crested puppy, tiny wee thing!!
- By lilacbabe Date 19.05.09 22:44 UTC
How wonderfull 3 Airdales all at once you lucky thing !!!!!! Gues you know I love them !!

Had a customers 8 mnth old Afghan in the shop today , what a beauty all legs and fluff and bouncing like a ball. She told me he was in the kennels as she was on holiday  and when he came home he wrecked a book shelf of books , some of her classical long playing records then got her rug from the sitting room bunched it up added a few coushions and then setteled down for a sleep. Bless !!!!!
Ha was however very well behaved and patient when in the shop Probably just making up to his owner for lost time at home and making his presence noticed :)
Love the breed but very hard work I think !!??

Had a lovely cuddle with a Dane at the beach the other day. I always forget how huge they really are... made Storm look tiny! I tried to encourage him to come home with me but his owner was just a bit too vigilent (kidding). Lots of cross breeds over here in Australia... pretty rare to find a well bred pedigree dog but I am always looking :-)
- By susieq [gb] Date 20.05.09 07:43 UTC
I have a friend with a black Afgan, absolutely beautiful, bit of a goof ball though!

Just seen about 'Brian' bless him he was a lovely but funny dog!  He was slightly older than one of my Rottie's and he always used to charge after her in his 'Brian' way lol!

Lovely boy and sad to hear he has passed.

(Don't mean to hy-jack the thread!)

We had two twelve week old newfie pups at training class on monday night right little fur babies they were as well.
And please will you all stop mentioning GSD pups !!! I want one!!!
- By Gemini05 Date 20.05.09 15:49 UTC
This afternoon I so the most adorable BEAGLE pup!! she was the cutiest thing I have ever seen (apart from a BMD pup of course!) wow, she was about 4 months, ohh I would love to have a beagle! lol :)

Also met a yorkshire terrier type dog, I asked what he was crossed with, and the lady was not sure, but he had the build and fitures of a yorkie, yet his coat was a lovely long silky gold colour, and he had a gay tail. So not sure what was in the mixture but he looked so cute too!!
- By lincolnimp [gb] Date 21.05.09 18:30 UTC
Every other house in my village has a Labrador or a working Springer - and most of the others have Jack Russells of various shapes and sizes. Otherwise there's a lovely friendly Rottweiler, a couple of GSDs, and a breeder of Cesky Terriers - she has a new puppy that's GORGEOUS!
- By Perry Date 21.05.09 19:01 UTC
Yesterday I saw a 16 week old bearded collie, he was adorable and I want one :)  He was incredibly well behaved for 16 weeks old, he was about to jump up at me and his owner said down and he sat down :) :)
- By kizzistaff [gb] Date 22.05.09 16:49 UTC
yesterday I met a 7 month old boerbaul (sp). He was massive. My little crestie ran over shouting his head off and when the dog chased him he ran back and hid behind me. I have never seen one before, very impressive dog.

Walking home from work I was accompaned by an ex work mate who I had not seen for years, it was lovely to catch up... But even nicer was her 14 week old choc lab who was being looked after by her 5 year old goldie. They were having such fun... The goldie was wagging her tail letting the pup almost catch it then swishing it away. It was ages before pup realised he was never going to catch that tail! He was running at dandelions and butter flies. Everything was  there just waiting for him to discover... Needless to say I was a little late home and my dogs were extra attentive with their welcome home sniffing!!
