Is there anyone that can tell me what the equivalent of HDA1 score would be in the U.K
any help thanks :-)

Hi Emz77,

I believe:
HDA1 = 0-4 In BVA Scheme or Normal in SV (Germany)

Thanks D, I knew it was a very good score, but just wanted to know how good ;)

Umm my boy was scored excellent in Europe a few years ago, which again was supposedly equivalent to this score, his BVA score wasn't the same I can tell you!

oh so what did the score by the BVA turn out to be just out of interest.....I would like to know as the european stud dogs that I am interested in have this for a scoring system and wouldn't want to use one with a bad outcome!! If you don't wish to answer then that is fine :-)

There is a big difference on the scores different european countries give to a same xray.
I mean xray that scores A1 in one country could score C in a another country.
I know this because for example in Finland they are pretty strict so some people go over to neighbouring country to get their dogs xrayed to get better scores.
This is of course cheating the system but it happens.

I'm not sure you can compare the score numbers in UK and europe(I have seen some webpages giving corresponding UK score/european score).
For example in my breed if you look at the UK scores most dogs would score A or B(=healthy) hardly any Cs, Ds or Es...
I would not imagine this is because of UK dogs having better hips than the dogs in Europe but how the xrays are scored/numbers matched to Letter.
Of course there has to be something to give an idea of what the letter stands for so breeders in UK have an idea but I do not believe it to be as straight forward as A1 =0-4 etc...
My humble opinion only :)

Hi Emz77,

Obviously as Noora kindly pointed out there will be some variation in scores between FCI countries I hope that this document will give you the fuller picture; http://www.grsk.org/Fluckiger_Scorig.pdf HTH :)

I have had my schips hip scored here, non required etc, as we've got an order for Finland with a research scientist working on Epliepsy (DNA)schipperkes.  Have always X-rayed but never sent off for scoring before so got a bit of a shock when our results came back from both Finland and BVA - my male scored 8 -9 total 17 BVA higher than I expected but with Finnish vets he scored B, my bitch came back with BVA 12 and again Finnish scored B.

She has listed Finnish system vs uk here for me this is per hip as they score each hip then round down apparently.
Those our (Finnsh Kennel Club) hip letters nearly are:
A = 0-4
B = 5-10
C = 11-18
D = 19-25
E = 26-35

Hi Scip,

Yes the scores you were given would have actually been scored a B as this ranges from

B1 =11-18
B2 =19-25

Just to add the E score would be much higher than the figure you were given as this is classed as Severe CHD 51-106

On the FCI score which covers Europe.

some of my imports have been done overseas and here and the comparisions are not that acurate.
for example
HD 0 (A)  hips given a assesment by BVA panel prior to importations and scored at 3/5
HD 1 (B) scored bva 6/6
OFA Good  penn 60th centile scored BVA 8/8
HD B (1) scored 17/10 !!!!

the only way to be sure is to actually see the x-ray plates yourself.

ok thanks all for your replies....it is hard isn't it when you have all these different systems, maybe they should all start using the same one, that would make things much easier for everyone :-D

I am thinking of sending my latest girls off to  Finland, a friend says that her vet could send it off for me, so think I'll do that.  not had her BVA score yet though and it was done 5 weeks ago, vet sent wrong form off so who knows how long my wait will be.  Just thought it would be interesting to see how much they differ!

Yes, hips E covers anything that is worse than D so dog with hardly any hipsocket would still score E as it is as bad as it gets...
Each hip is scored and it can be different letters so left A, right C for example. but the dog is officially given only one letter and it is always the worse one so dog with A&C hips would be classed as C.
This is how it used to be...
