Topic Other Boards / Foo / really annoyed !!
- By furriefriends Date 16.05.09 20:06 UTC
My daughter had her leaving prom last weekend. They all had a fantastic time with exeption of one thing. We had booked them a stretch hummer for the arrival costing a fortune or at least I thought so. and each child had paid their bit. I had not been happy with the compamy all along mainly because they would not send me written confirmation of the details and when you are paying out £600 I felt that was the least the could manage. i only wanted an email! They kept coming up with excuses.
Anyway to the point, when the llimo arrived it was the wrong one not a hummer but a lincoln a cheaper vehicle and more importantly not what they wanted and if any of you have had year 11 prom's as you will know the whole thing is and every detail is v.v. important !c
I sent an email the next day to complain politely but in strong tones. A week later no reply, having now spoken to them they are ducking and diving and getting quite defensive. Now waiting for them to come back to me on monday -- not holding my breath  but even more annoyed now.

holly molly £600 seems alot for a limo for one thing , i know my sons friend had one  around 2 years ago and they paid £250' 600 seems alot but i dont no nowdays , does seem like you had a bad experiance id complain for sure, demand some money back as they didnt send you what you wanted maybe putting it in writing to the company would work better than emailing,
good luck hope you get it sorted its a shame as its one night that cant be made better now and you just want to make it perfect,
had a similar experiance on my 40th had ticket to a show up west table booked for a meal tried to book a black cab well in advance was told id have to do it half hour before we wanted so i did it an hour before but not one black cab would come to this area, we missed the meal and i had to get my disabled mum into a minicab very uncomftable for her, i wanted it to be perfect,
the show was good tho and we come home and had egg and chips,

i didnt even know schools in the UK had proms now?

when did that take off....used to be just an american thing
- By chelzeagirl [gb] Date 16.05.09 20:32 UTC
my son went to school in blackheath and they had a prom, gosh its the main event lol,
you do just want something like that to be perfect tho dont you and well im stil realing at the £600, has it gone up that much for a limo,
think furriefriends has had a very bad deal here tho the agreement was broken by the company for sending the wrong car and some refund should be offered id speak to trading standards im sure you'd have a case,

We've had them for years!, mainly for kids leaving high schools though.
- By krusewalker [gb] Date 16.05.09 22:05 UTC
when you say mainly for kids leaving high schools, i thought that was what a prom is?

when i was at school they were just called school discos

i dont know anyone who went to a school prom as such (im in uk btw)

its a big american tradition though, if you go by the movies LOL
- By furriefriends Date 16.05.09 22:20 UTC
Yes it is kids leaving secondary school and its got really big now I guess it was originally american  but just like  alot of things they get over here too. At least this one is good  The young people know about it when they start in year 7 and look forward to it for the next five years. I am sure the girls put as much in to it with dresses etc as they would if they got married LOL.  and seeing the boys suited and booted is un beliveable
It is fantastic to see all these 16 year old boys and girls looking so great and certainly brings a tear to your eye. I have seen these and helped arrange them in my school. so have seen it from the side of parent and teacher.
A school prom is a far cry from the disco's when I was at school in the 70's

Yep i will be ringing trading standards on Monday . £600 was cheaper than some we got quoted and seems to be about the going rate ! iam thinking of going in to business !!!,  IT was split between 18 though. Actually the same price as the tickect to go. you want to see the number of limo's, hired buses and custom cars that are around on these nights. btw I am talking state schools here
- By furriefriends Date 16.05.09 22:25 UTC
Yep in writing would be better but guess what ?smart website but only a 0800 number and I am trying to track down their postal adress. didn't notice that at the time and I have no paperwork. Also payment in cash on the night as most of them seem to be and no receipt  difficult to kikc up when you have 18 excited teenagers waiting to go out. Stillcould have been worse  but it does annoy you when companies do this
- By poppity [gb] Date 17.05.09 08:47 UTC
Things have certainly changed a lot since signing everyone's shirt was the big thing with a school disco to look forward to.Someone's making a lot of money out of parents again.Sounds like a trip to the C A bureau might help with a view to the small claims court, but don't let them get away with it.
- By furriefriends Date 17.05.09 08:58 UTC
will keep you updated yes I had thought the small claims court if I have to. I know there is not a large refund to be expected but it is more the point I am making that customer service is important and I have a feeling by the managers defensive attitude not to mention the original "buddy buddy we are all on first name terms"until I stuck to my guns and wouldn't go away they are not used to any one querying their practices.
Call me old fashioned but I like to be treated as a customer not that they are doing me a favour.

I can understand perfectly how upset your daughter and her friends must have been, Prom is very important, it's the highlight of leaving school, the dresses the time and the excitement, their faces must have dropped to the floor when the Lincoln turned up.

The fact that they also did this without warning or explanation too, it goes to show if your intstincts are niggling go with them. :-(

You are entitled to money for the difference if not more and if you don't hear please go and see a solictor firms like this should not be allowed to get away with doing things like this.

here here furriefriends!
you stick to your guns you could try the CAB if you dont want to pay solicitor fees why should it cost you anymore.

i rang these when i bought a used car 3 months ago that had gear box problems they were a great help
even emailed me a draft of the letter i needed to send to the dealer who was not willing to take resposabilty for the car even tho it started playing up the day after i bought it,
i used their letter and got full refund of my £3000,
good luck and keep fighting the more people give up and let this company get away with it the more they going to do it to others, i'd demand at least half money back plus compensation for ruining the night, bet you get it, dont be put off by the managers Dismissive ness, my car dealer was so rude to me i thought id really have a fight on my hands as he truley was not willing to do anything , till i droped the car off to him leaving it their with my letter he rang me next day with full refund,
remember keep copies of everything you send xx
oh and let us know how you get on,
power to the people ;-)
- By furriefriends Date 17.05.09 11:42 UTC
Thanks everyone I feel a bit better knowing others would be angry too and thanks chelzeagirl for the link I will be in touch with them .
The rest of the prom was great they had a wonderful time and look fantastic I was so proud of my daughter and of course her friends.
I dont think they have stopped celebrating prom followed by successful after party then on the final day she went out agin withher friends partying. At least she was brought home safe and wel phew its hard being the parent of  a teenager, I've got bags under my eyes from lack of sleep and playing taxi at all hours just to make sure they are all safe.
Now back to the serious stuff the gcse's are full on from tomorrow !!!  Lets hope she is as happy on results day !
- By chelzeagirl [gb] Date 17.05.09 11:54 UTC
ahh bless good luck to your girl hope she gets results she wants,
as for hard work being mum of a teenager lol i know what you mean , i gave my son an 18th birthday party few years ago and i was SSoo pleased when noise patrol turned up at 5 am to shut us down i hadnt had the heart to tell them all i was cream crackered and had had enough i didnt want to be a kill joy, so god bless noise patrol lol ;-),
keep up the fight and your girl and her friends could be celebrating at blue water spending their refuned limo money in a few months, lol,
if everything else fails get in touch with watchdog Ann robinsons coming back she'll put the wind up that company xx
stay strong you will get refunded,

taxi thats me to!,  i once drove from south east London to a club in Rochester to drop my son some shoes as he'd gone wearing some silly trainers he couldnt get in the club with, so mummy jumped in the car and drop them off, what a night that was, lol
- By furriefriends Date 17.05.09 12:24 UTC
Ann Robinson now thats a thought !! Yep I cant topt the rochester to s.e London (thats where I am too) but of course why would it be unreasonable to expect mummy to bring your shoes lol My 2 have me running all over with forgotten bits and pieces and then taking friends around too because I cant bear to let them use public transport especially at night it feels too dangerous or worse still walk home.
If I get reincarnated I am only having dogs !!
- By poppity [gb] Date 17.05.09 12:27 UTC
It's so annoyng that the money has been paid upfront.I agree that customer service and common decency should have solved this problem as soon as it was relayed to them.Having a mutual buddy didn't make this company behave properly either.

lol i second that lol, my boy almost 22 and he's still mummys teenager he's a dancer (street dance) so he's work is two few and far between he was in Russia teaching before xmas then did the T-Mobile Ad at Liverpool street station, that paid him well , but he has no steady income as such , thing with his jobs (when he gets them) is they dont pay him till weeks or months later, he's off to Ukraine in June for a month to teach for same company as before he Liked Russia said he felt safer their than coming home thu Peckham lol, (says it all dont it!)
