Agh...
Poor daughter,only13 and has shingles.
This has put paid to her return to France for exchange trip.
What does anyone know about this virus getting children? All of my children had chicken pox as toddler/primary age, but all had a very mild dose with very little trouble.

I've had shingles very recently in my ear.
I had a whole host of different symptoms but never actually had any problems with my ear as such..
But then i'm still ill and don't know if this was due to whats going on now.
As for children getting it i don't know, hope she gets over this soon..

Maybe someone else can give light on children getting it.

Shingles is caused by the virus that causes chicken pox which can then lay dormant in the nerve cells. People who suffer from shingles are usually stressed, run down or their immune system is at a low ebb at the time and the virus activates. It usually follows the path of nerves and is therefore extremely painful. I had a bout of Shingles last year and found Hypericum Cream quite soothing.

What a shame for your daughter Karen that she's missing her trip to France.  I hope she gets better soon and isn't too upset.

Please make sure your daughter with shingles DOES NOT GO NEAR PREGNANT WOMEN. It can be passed on to baby and prove fatal.
Wishing her a speedy recovery.

Thanks all, she is still too unwell to care much about France, she seems to think she is a nuisance for upsetting all plans.
I have spoilt her with armchair pillows in her bed (where she wants to be) strawberries, lemonade and magazines for teens...
She has anti virasl 5x a day! Is also not allowed out until spots (her right side) have settled.

Thanks for the Hypericum tip. Anything I can do is god to hear,
An 11 year old was killed in an RTA here last night and it brings you up sharp to how precious our children are.

Poor daughter shingles is horrid. I had it down my face from my head and through my ear and it took ages for it to be diagnosed and then far to late to treat. Hopefully if they got it quick the anti virals will get to work and she will be better soon. I took lots of strong painkillers too. May need to ask the doc whats best for a young one.
As some else said it can affect anyone who has has chcken pox just more often seems to occur in older people. Hopefully being young her immune system is stong and that will help
