Puppy has been in season just over 2 weeks now, all going as well as can be expected!
Yesterday she was bothered a lot by her back end, licking a lot and every time she moved she was leaking blood. She hadn't lost that much up to now.
Oh and there looked to be a few drops of yellow urine at one point too?
This morning she jumped up and the blood has spattered from one end of the room to the other, even up the walls!
is this normal? I thought we were getting to the end of it.
I don't remember her Mum bleeding so much in her first season or any subsequent.

All bitches are different (bit like us human girls :-D) and yes I have had bitches that had blood losses and caused a right mess ! It always seems a lot more than in actually is ;-)

O my god! Poor girl! Yer every ones different, Id keep her downstairs for now though! x

Thanks both, it was more that we are well through her season and suddenly she seems to be losing a lot more that I was worried?

I see wot you're saying as they useally bleed lightly towards the end, If you're relly worried contact you're vet,but as long as shes eating.drinking and doesn't look in any pain she sld be fine! xx

All seems normal to me, but I guess if you're concerned a quick trip or call to the vets wouldn't hurt.

Our girl barely showed for 2 weeks and then it all seemed to come at once, stop then come again even worse, briefly then stop!!!

I think like us, every dog is different.

I posted a few concerns at my little ones first seaon and was recommended a book called 'book of the bitch'.  It's a really useful tool and pretty cheap too.

I have the book of the bitch....never thought to look in there though it was my bible this time last year before the pups were born (and after!)

I won't pretend to be really knowledgable about these things, but something similar to this happened with my mum's GR bitch. Unfortunately she had pyometra and by the time we took her to the vet she was an ill dog.

Although we were aware of pyometra, we had no idea that she had it. She bled as normal and then that stopped, as usual. After 10 days or so, she bled again but much more heavily, she was licking a lot, but she seemed ok in herself so noone worried. There just seemed to be a lot more blood than usual but it looked normal, but after a few days or so we noticed an unpleasant smell and all of a sudden she could barely get up - it was then an emergency vet job in the middle of the night. Thankfully she was ok but it would have been a lot better if we had taken her sooner!

I would take her to the vets just in case. I know of someone else who's bitch got it with her first season. I hope its not that though, and I hope she is ok!

I think I will have a word with my vet today.
She hasn't finished her season yet and didn't stop bleeding, it just became more obvious! She definitely isn't an ill dog at the moment but we all know how fast that can change.

When I first read it, I thought you meant she had stopped and started again, I would probably still ask the vet if it seems heavy and doesn't ease off though! I don't know much about pyometra, I just remember that incident which was some years ago.

She went down hill in the space of one evening and it all happened much quicker and much less obviously than all the symptoms charts you see - which is why noone was all that worried. It wasn't that we weren't paying attention, we noticed the bleeding but she was so full of beans even the day before. You are obviously mindful of it though - as I said, it didn't really occur to us!

My adolescent girl recently (last month) had her first season, it seemed rather unusual, really short and hardly any bleeding at all, and now she still has very red swollen nipples - I was looking at your question because of the title - how I feel!

Hi Kitty, thank you again and sorry about your girl.

I spoke to my vet and he doesn't want to see her at the moment as she is being "completely normal"! Actually she IS back to normal today with just the odd drip and at last her girlie bits seem to be going down too.
One of her sister's had her season about a month before Twiglet and they were concerned that her nipples were still raised so took her to the vet who said it is also completely normal.
Our vet told me that after their season the hormones in a bitch's body mimic pregnancy whether they are or they aren't pregnant hence why they prefer not to spay in that period. It sounds like your pup is normal too!
