(if you have a soft stomach, warning, it could get worse!)
Star and James have both just come home from the vets. They both have bloody poos (almost water in consistancy) and they are greenish yellow in colour. James has a temp of 40C and Stars is 39.5C. Both are also vomitting.
The vet did a test for parvo, and it came back NEGATIVE. He is running the fecals tonight, and will call us tomorrow with the results.
But I am so scared! I have no idea what could be causing this.
All the pups in Cher's litter (Reba, Rufus, and Chase) appear fine at the moment. The sick pups are not with the healthy ones right now, they are in a seperate pen.
Why when you have people coming tomorrow to see the pups do the pups get sick???? Hopefully it isnt anything to serious.
The sick pups were put on meds to help with the diarahea and vomiting.

I do hope the vet gets to the bottom of their illness.
Good luck, let us know how it goes.
Any news about the pups and the resuts. Hope all is ok. xx

Well, they got really poorly overnight, thought we were going to loose James for sure! He wouldnt react to anything, just layed there and wimpered. But this morning, he is full of energy and wants food. So I think the medicine is helping him now. They still have the runs, but at least there is no blood in it now.
The vet gets into the office in about an hour, so hopefully there will be some news.

Just posting an update.
As impish said, parvo test negative. Fecal sample negative for worms. Now most of the pups have the runs. We think its from plants out back, that the other day they were quite interested in, and would run by, grab a leaf, and eat it. Hopefully thats all it is!

are chers pups still ok kory or is it all of them? what kind of plants are they? someone on here might know if they cause a problems
really hope they are all ok

Reba seems ok, she had a bit of loose stools this morning, but seems to be better now. Chase and Rufus, they have the runs.
I dont know what the plant is, it was here when I moved in almost two years ago. The adult dogs, dont bother with it, but the pups sure like it! Lemme see if I can search google for a plant that looks like it. Its a small plant, looks more to be a groundcover plant, than a flowering plant. It does flower though, with either greenish white flowers, or pink ones. Its low to the ground, and the leaves are lime green almost in colour. The leaves are round too, not pointed.
I tried calling the lady that is coming to see the pups tonight, and I got no answer. Lets hope she calls back before she drives 45 minutes to an hour to see the pups.

European Ginger Asarum europeum??? It looks very similar to what is outside. I dug them up though, as well as the rose of sharon tree, violets, evening primrose

hopefully someone will know about them.
reqally hope they get better soon :(

Three Pups were rushed back into the vets this morning. Rufus, Star, and James. All are lethargic, wont eat, wont drink, wont even get up when you call their names or open the kennel doors. The vets is going to give them IV fluids, check sugar levels, give injections to help calm their stomachs, and force feed. I am so scared! My mind is in a tizzy!!!!!
Please let them be ok. I love them so much.

i'm hoping and praying so hard that they are alright kory.

Oh dear. I am keeping everything crossed here.

I have learned a big lesson here. If you have a good repore with your vet do not change. We were about to change to a different vet because they seemed to be more a breeders vet, but when the emergency happened that no one can forsee, it was come up with 500ish before they would see the pups. This vet I had spent over $2,000 at in the last couple of months, and $500 in the last week.
In desparation I called my old vet that still has all Casie's and Cher's records, and there response was "get them in here, we will work it out."
They have been in the vets now for about 2 hours, so every must be the same as when we left as there has been no phone call.
When we got the pups there, they were starting to become dehydrated, but not to the point of being clinicly dehydrated, so the syringing of water and liquid food it to them must have been the right thing to do. The other clinic would not even give up phone advise has to how to support them at home.
This in a way is a good thing, that it happened before I had completely changed vets.
I am so grateful to them, and feel so bad that it was an emergency that made me realize how good I had it with my long time vet.

Sending lots of positive thoughts for their recovery.

i'm really glad you have a vet thats being compassionate and helpful. thats horrible that the toher vet would put money before the pups lives :(
still hoping like mad for them.

Pups are home from the vets. They are being force fed a liquid diet, 6 times a day. They are also on Metronidizole (sp?) and Sulcrulfate (sp again). When they got home, they wouldnt take the liquid food out of a bowl, we had to put it in them with a syringe. This morning, they all took the food out of the bowl, and had a bit of Gastro Canned (a couple pieces each, handfed).
But it cant be the plant, like we were thinking, because now Casie (one of the moms) is loose with some blood in it. Chase and Reba, also had diarehea overnight, but no blood. Chase and Reba were put on the same meds (minus the liquid diet) as the rest of the pups, so hopefully this kinda gives us a head on whatever this is, and helps it not get so bad. Cher, she still seems fine, so lets hope it doesnt hit her as well, because she is allergic to the Metronidizole.

Have you done anything to the kennels recently repaint? Glad to hear that they seem better today.

nothing new was done, since we moved in 2 years ago. Other than I layed a patio, but used the same stones as was already there, just leveled it out and put topsoil down. Could that do something???

Lastsummer we had a litter of 12 pups and after they started going in the garden at about 5 weeks they all got poorly, similar to yours, we ended up with 2 at the vets overnight. We got them all through with syringing water every half hour and antibiotics.
The vet tested for campylobactor and other things which came back negative.
They told me it could be something they picked up from bird poo in the garden.
Fingers and toes crossed that all of your's are soon ok again.

Happy to say that everyone seems to have made the turnaround. This morning the xpen was no more dirty than it would always always be after penning up 5 puppies over night in it. Last night they almost inhaled their supper and again this morning with breakfast.
Boy is it loud here today, they all have 5 days a penned up energy and the scraps are constant. They are really cute though. James keeps looking at the window, and as to say "it is sunny, puppy playtime". If it warms up a bit more I will later take them out to burn off some of this energy, but first i want to get out there and makes sure all the plants are out of the back garden, move them to the front were puppies dont play.
They were treated with a broad spetrum dewormer, as this would be the most likely thing when the parvo tests all came back negative, and this particular dewormer also helps stop the spasms in the bowel so it works well on the poops.
So I am off to finish fixing the garden. Dont know for sure if it is anything from there but i am not going to take any chances, this week has been to scarey and tiring to have to repet it.

Finally everyone seems fine. The pen is puppy clean, and they are looking forward to puppy play time.
Thank you all for your supportive comments and prayers.

I hope they continue to get better!
I have a 11 week old cavallier king charles puppy who was very fit and well at 9 weeks old, but then last week we bought another cavalier king charles as a playmate for her she is blenheim and he is ruby he was just 8 weeks old - he always seemed very nervous and not half as loving or enthusiastic as her - now 1 week after having now both of them - he is so much more like she is, loving affectionnate and they both copy one and other all the time - but she - millie has had a chesty cough the past 2 days and sounds like she is wheezing like she gags sounding like she is trying to cough up fllemm or something - has any one else had annything like this please - i called the vets online and they seemed to say she was ok tilll tuesday when the vets re open as it just sounds like her palete and something else i cant remember now sorry - but she is still so happy, loving and running around after rooney bossing him about - but at night seems so much more wheezy and gags to get something up then swallows but never seems to clear her throat - please please has anyone any help , Sharron x

I would be wondering about croup. I dont know if it is a different word for when its in dogs, but its basically the same thing as human croup.
Would also be concerned about callapsed trachea because Casie has a cough like you describe, but it is caused from the debarking surgery she had when she was younger, which messes up the trachea. (from what I have been told) But it is intermident cough, and only when she is exercising or overly relaxed in the sun. (casie and her sun bathing LOL)
And there is a concern about a mild strain of Kennel Cough, since you have just brought in a new pup, and it happened a week later after you brought this new pup in.
Those are my three main concerns.
i dont think its croup she doesnt cough that much i havve been reallly watching her today and last night - its more like chesty wheezy all the time then coughs to clear her throat almost like a baby when they have rattly wheezy chests but they dont know how to cough it up - i have been reading all kinds of sites with googlin my questons and a vet went through her examination proceedure checking their palete isnnt bluish grey, then feeling the wind pipe to see if that sets her off coughing but none of thhem were present and i couldnt get to look at her tonsils to see if they looked inflamed bless her - i did wonder about a mild kennal cough with getting the other pup a week later - but also i wondered if she had swallowed something and halved her breathing potential - but then i also wonder we bathed her the night before she got the problem - in the house all nice and warm as well as my other pup - kept them really nice and warm and even dried them off with a dryer so i donnt know if that is also anything to do with it - what do you think pls x
