Hi I am considering getting a show trolley (the type with cages fitted in)
I looked at two yesterday The double decker- pro's very easy to fold and lightweight, cons smaller wheels

or the same version with big wheels- cons have to split into four parts to travel and store.

I won't be using as crates at home so will just be stored folded up.

I wondered how people have found the smaller wheels? Do they stick in mud and stones?

Is it worth the extra money and hassle to have the bigger wheels?

Any advice welcome

Thanks

Yes nightmare, a bit like pulling a sled. At Windsor and Richmond I very nearly took the dogs out and abandoned it :-(

I've just traded mine up for the 2 berth, all terrain wheels.
Pros: will cover any ground, very easy to pull/push.
Cons: wheels heavy and takes longer to assemble, no parasol holes due to it's higher centre of gravity. Expensive- nearly £600.

For outdoor shows, no comparison and in a wet summer I wouldn't even bother to use the small wheel one.

I think that was the other one I was looking at - It's not on the site but is one on top of the other rather than side by side.
How easy is it to set up when you arrive?
Do you travel them in it and then lift it out or fold it and travel in crates?
Sorry so many questions but as you say it's a lot of money and I don't want to buy one and then wish I had bought the other and can't continue to carry everything by hand

Not too bad when you get used to it, worst thing is some folks comments like " Oh that looks like a lot of trouble" but it's not really.

I always have travelled with it dismantled and dogs in car cage but yesterday ( Birm Nat) I had it up in the car (minus wheels) and a friend helped me lift the cage plus 2 cavaliers straight onto assembled base - piece of cake :-)

I would sum it up by saying  - yes it has it's small irritations but  - yes I'm very pleaed I bought it.
Mine is the side by side / all terrain  from 'DogShowtrolley', purchased specifically so I could have it assembled in my car (Mercedes estate).
I would never risk the small wheels again - too many miserable experiences !!

Best of luck with your decision.

Same as Toolz if I travel with friend trolley goes in car set up just to be lifted out onto wheels, if I travel on my own it is folded in the boot and dogs travel in boxes on back seat.  Would never use small wheels, watched others struggling at quite a few shows then made my decision for the all terrain ones.  Weight of wheels is nothing compared to some other trolley's.  Dog show trollye 4 berth all terrains was my choice.

Hope you get one that suits you.

Scared to buy a four berth Joan - I'll only fill it!!!

Thought the two berth would get two paps in each bit and then leave room for bags etc.

Liked the tall one but thinking now I would lose the option of having it set up for travel which the side by side offers.
Spent ages at Birmingham playing with it yesterday. Will need something by Aug for pups to come out in.

I was at Birmingham yesterday Ann, didnt notice a lady drooling over a show trolley lol, I got a secondhand one off Ebay for £70, its an old one that doesnt lift off the wheels so I cant travel with it set up, does the job though but a more modern one with all terrain wheels is definitely on my wish list for one day :-)

Ann the four berth is brilliant if you use it to capacity.  My next buy is hopefully going to be a smaller two berth for when I go to the shows with only one or two dogs.   Jim doesn't know yet :-) LOL

I have plagued the poor man for ages- I have been looking on ebay too but even the heavy ones are £300 plus.
I have been measuring the boot now which is a step forward- Sorry I didn't see you yesterday I would have said hello.
I was dogless and childless for the day!!!
I will keep watching and see if I see any but think I will need to order in about a month to have in time for SKC in Aug as I will be bringing lots of puppies up... Yipee!!!

PMSL at Joan - Same here- Best husbands don't know the money involved.
Surely 4 paps would be ok in a two berth (Hopeful !)...

Sadly I cant go to SKC as the oh has MS and finds very long trips way to much for him, would have loved to have seen your pups come out, my pup had his 2nd show at Birmingham yesterday and managed to get a VHC bless him, dont quite know how he managed it as he didnt behave very well at all lol.

I was watching the class- Well done.x

4 Paps would be fine in a 2 berth, only bugbear is if you brush their coats and put them back in together they get messed up again in double quick time, must say mine prefer to be in together though or they will whine even though they can see eachother perfectly well in the next cage lol.

Thankyou Ann :-)
- By ANNM172 [gb] Date 11.05.09 11:01 UTC
Looking at boot measurements the two berth all etrrain is the only one that would fit made up according to the measuremants on the site so may need to be that one.
Shame really as the one on top of the other would take up less room at a show and I think would be easier to push as shorter - decisions, decisions...
Just need to win the lottery and all will be well
- By Papillon [gb] Date 11.05.09 11:03 UTC
I know, think all dog people need the lottery win as there is endless things we just "have to have" for our dogs lol.
- By Abbeypap [gb] Date 11.05.09 11:36 UTC
Ann worth speaking to them as they can make your trolley to fit.  Know Sue Morrell got hers made an inch or two shorter to fit in her car. Would surprise you the number of people that rarely sit down at shows and I'm one of them and for me the four berth is a great height for leaning on and watching the world go by.  Oh and a good height fo r grooming as well LOL

Well Done at Birmingham Yvonne.  I stayed local and went to an open show here with the three Phalenes.  Had a great day.

It would work if I still travelled everyone in boxes and kept it folded which is probably just as easy and better value as only £100 more.
Roof in Rav4 is low and has a seatbelt compartment at one part of roof.
Will keep agonising a while yet...
- By Papillon [gb] Date 11.05.09 12:26 UTC
Thankyou Joan, I thought there was a lovely relaxed atmosphere there yesterday, I always mean to say hello to people but the OH isnt keen on being left alone at a show to long as they really arent his thing so I find myself doing a passing hello to people as I walk outside to let the dogs have a wee, men!
- By Abbeypap [gb] Date 11.05.09 14:03 UTC
My OH won't even cross the doorway of a dogshow, thinks it's the biggest waste of money and time he has ever seen.  LOL "does this face look bovvered" Hmmmmmmmmm  :-)  LOL

Shame you both aren't coming up for the show on Sunday, a cracking entry for a non breed specialist  175 making 218.  And with SKC the day before going to be a busy weekend.  Check out the clubs blog for results etc http://www.papillonclubofscotland.co.uk
- By Papillon [gb] Date 11.05.09 14:09 UTC
Yes mine thinks about the same to lol but since I have absolutely no sense of direction whatsoever he comes along just so I actually get to a show, sat nav ok but still I flap and go the wrong way so there is no choice but for him to come along to but sadly he wouldnt be able to cope with going up to Scotland, his illness causes such fatigue even though I do all the driving he would probably be quite ill by the time we got there, I wish you and everyone going to best of luck though :-)
- By ANNM172 [gb] Date 11.05.09 14:40 UTC
I would be coming if I had anything to show- Any excuse to get back to Glasgow...
Thanks for the link- I looked for Pap Club of Scotland schedules for Aug - is it too early?
Good luck- should be a great weekend
- By Abbeypap [gb] Date 11.05.09 14:51 UTC
Will let you know in good time when the August one's are out.
I'm stewarding SKC BIS ring B on Friday, showing SKC Saturday and then club show Sunday.
Would love to have gone to the SKC top dog competition on the Thursday night and supported Anna Fraser & Gillian Graham with there Papillon Ruben  (Northlyte Timeless at Bonmeshay). But the thought of doing 160 mile round trip for a third time started to make my knees go weak. LOL

What a weekend - Hope you get some sleep in beforehand - You'll need it!
Good luck - will watch the site for results x

I have a Romar trolly for my sams my OH nearly keeled over at the price but its brilliant, the only problem now is I have a papillon, I put the partition in for WELKS but he disappears beneath all the bedding LOL and he looks the size of a pea in it!!! so guess what (OH doesnt know) I am needing to buy a showtrolly all terrain thingy now LOL.
- By Sampap [gb] Date 11.05.09 22:02 UTC
I will be there to support them, I believe Anna was out buying new shoes today!! My daughter Melisa is in the junior handling finals at the same event with her Rough Collie she is very excited about it.
- By Abbeypap [gb] Date 12.05.09 07:47 UTC Edited 12.05.09 07:50 UTC
Jackie I hope you all have a good night. My friend's daughter is there for the Junior Handling as well she is Morven McDonald and will be handling her Beagle.  I know Anna is dead excited and a wee bit nervous as well about it.  Just sorry I can't get there would have been nice to watch it all, especially as its judged on a points system. LOL someone I spoke to said it was a bit like being at bingo and waiting or 1 number  :) :) :)

eta How do you ever manage with a Romar trolley, take it you wheel it into a van? I had Anna's in my car twice and always swore I would never have one due to the weight, but if you can wheel it straight in and not have to fold it up I suppose it's a different thing, either that or your awful strong :)
- By Sampap [gb] Date 12.05.09 11:21 UTC
Hi Joan
yes it is heavy but I fold it up and put it in the van, with Sams who are heavy dogs it works alot better, you will see wee Domino in it at SKC, dont laugh !!
