Topic Dog Boards / General / Need Helping Convincing OH to let me have a Pup!
- By Misty-Sprocker [gb] Date 09.05.09 17:48 UTC Edited 09.05.09 18:42 UTC
We mated our dog to a bitch.

The owners of the bitch really want us to have a puppy, as they know we will give it good home.

My OH is almost convinced, but I need some help as to how I can completely convince him!

Any ideas!?

tell him it's better that your dog has a companion in his life and that most breeders recommend that it's always nice to get another dog at some point. also that it want be such hard work as they will run around together and burn off alot of their own energy.
Also no need to feel guilty if you have to leave them while you go out as they have each other for company.
few white lies never hurt anyone, mind you it will be alot of hard work at the start but he doesn't need to know that, as long as your prepared to be busy.
good luck.

I would personally never make lies to convince someone to have a dog.  I would never force more dogs, or a breed, on my partner if  he didn't want them.

Forcing him to have a pup could possibly cause trouble laer down the line, I've seen similar happen too close to home and it is a cause of some arguements 10 years later :(

I have learnt this, hence why now setting ground rules before anything serious!  ;)  I'm having as many dogs I can cope with as long as he can have 2 crossbreeds! :-D

Wait untill he sees them and he will be unable to resist.

That's a bit worrying.  Most breeders want owners that really wanted the puppy.

Personally if my OH wasn't 100% committed to wanting a puppy I wouldn't get one. If he needed even a tiny bit of pressure then I'd know the time wasn't right.

I had a family come to see a Papillon pup a few years ago Mum and two children were fantastic.  Dad complained he could buy two GSD's for same price.  They left with nothing.  Only ever have what is wanted and will be welcomed by everyone in the house.

I dont work, so therefor have all the time in the world to bring on a puppy. We have a 5 other dogs, due to my OH being a game keeper, 4 being his and one being mine.
During the shooting season, my dog will have to work about 80 days, running from beginning of September, to end of January, so it would be fairer to Misty (my dog) if she didnt have to work the entire shooting season with me!

I think he is pretty convinced anyway, i have inside info that he told someone that he is more than tempted to let me have one!!

Men aren't as good at keeping it to themselves as they think!!!! LOL
Sounds like you don't have much convincing to do.  And the pup will be a much wanted addition to your gathering LOL.

Think you may have a decision to make in a few months time.

Which one? Boy or Girl?  What colour? :-) decisions decisons. Good luck

The pups will be ready to go to new homes in the next week or so!!!
I know which one would be coming home! A lovely bitch, isnt the biggest bitch in the litter, but isnt the smallest.
I think it would be nice to have a pup from this particular litter as it our labradors baby! And I've always said that I'd like a Hamish baby! (Hamish being the lab!)
All the pup are a creamy colour at the moment, but Hamish is fox red and the bitch is a darkish yellow (hence her name Honey!) Some of the pups heads are darker than their bodies already, so we are having a debate as to how dark they will go!

I'm also sure that when he sees her again he'll be tempted.  Are the rest all going to working homes also?  Good luck in your quest! :)

The old theory was that a yellow lab's body would eventually end up the colour of its puppy ears.

All the ones that are sold are going to working homes! If i get my bitch, then there will only be two dog pups left to be found homes which is pretty good! The rest of the litter are all going to people that the breeders know as well. Thats what they wanted though!
