Hi my bitch has gone off her food she is going through a phantom pregnancy she is on galastop since this tuesday hoped things would of kicked in by now anyway she is still off her food not wanting anything I give her in her bowl shes not eating her usual food been trying to tempt her to things like chicken, minced beef (with onions!!!), tuna anything really but she will not have it she will sniff the bowl of whatever is put there then walks away little madam she is only way she'd eat is throwing the food at her although after a while she gets bored and just walks away this is really stressing to see her like this she has been to vets they prescribed galastop and she is supposed to pick up her appetite in a few days after treatment have phoned them they said theres nothing they can do and only options are stay on the galastop or go off it and possibly get the phantom pregnancy to return again???? I have asked vets about appetite stimulators they were no help just wondered if anyone can reccomend anything to stimulate her appetite I have done a search and there is a product for hayfever in humans called periactin used in cats just wondered if you can purchase this in the uk and where do chemists have it without prescription or is there any natural effective remedies available and does piriton work the same way as periactin????

Hi sofie, have you tried tripe? Having persuaded a very indifferent eater this way you could give it a try.

My young westie didn't eat for 2 weeks when my old westie died, he missed him!! I bought a liver topper which is like powdered liver and sprinkled it on his food, it got him eating again straight away you can buy it off the internet, its completely natural. You get it from a website called pettastic, costs about £8

Is she lossing alot of weight quickly?  If she's not loosing too much I wouln't worry just yet, a dog won't starve themselves.  And if she's eating a little each day then something is going into her.

For phantoms I normally reduce food and up exercise and mentle stimulation and have never really had a full blown phantom using this method.  Most times  it's about keeping the bitch's mind off being in whelp. :)
