Sad as you like I know, but I was so excited! She is day 50 now and I thought that as she is a giant breed I might not be able to feel them, but I laid my hand gently on her side while she was asleep and I got some of the cutest little nudges!! It feels like it was my first hello from them :) My whelping box and kit were delivered yesterday and overprotective mum that I am I have even ordered a doppler so that I can check on their heartbeats ( and if I am being honest cos the idea of being able to listen to them made me go all sqidgy inside)
I had her scanned again last week to make sure that everything was ticking on as it should be, and to try to get an idea about how many - I mainly wanted to check that she didnt have just one or two that might get huge- and the vet laughed and said 'that's not a worry here!' he is cautiously confident that she has at least 7, and I got to see them wriggling around. Less than 2 weeks to go now (hopefully) til we get to meet the long awaited little rascals, and I cant wait.
I was going to order some of the V drops but I am concerned about dosage, does anyone have any idea what dose a giant breed newborn would need? I have to say that I pray it is the thing that I never have to crack the seal on.

Hi cheadlelass

Lovely to feel your excitement  :-)

Yes, go ahead and order your Dopram - if you need it when a pup is struggling to breathe, you will feel awful.

3 or 4 drops is fine, and the results outstanding.  Better to throw it in the bin later, unused and out of date, than regret not having any.

Thanks so much Jean I will get it ordered now.
I am so excited I cant believe it, my OH was laughing the other night saying that I didnt get this excited when the kids were due! She is the pampered princess at the moment (not that she isnt usually to be fair!)and loving every second of it, I keep telling her how clever she is and she gives me a look that says ' you have no idea...' :) I am fighting the urge every time I pass her to lie down and cuddle her tum - she is very patient with me, and I am sure that she finds it amusing.

Oh how lovely to hear your excitement. Its contagious. I've got butterflies now. roll on next spring (hip and eye scores allowing) when I can feel the same as you.

I know just how you feel I just saw my girl's babies moving around 2 days ago, she was lying at my feet while I was on the phone and I saw movement, then felt as the baby moved against my hand... I was so excited!! We've only got 5 days now until her due date, I can't wait to meet the pups and am praying for a safe delivery for both mother and pups!

I've ordered the DopramV drops from our vets, they said it was a prescription only drug and was to be used under extreme caution. I'd rather have it there in case I need it, rather than watch a pup die after efforts to revive it.  Like others have said, I'd rather throw it in the bin unused than not have it in the first place.

Good luck for your pups, I think it might be the most exciting thing you have happen this year!!!

Ooh how exciting! I could never really feel or see Ellie's, but I had a stethescope and spent ages listening to the little heartbeats!

OMG the doppler arrived this morning and we heard 4 different heartbeats on one side!! It was AMAZING and they are so fast! I had to use headphones while I found them as she didnt like the crackling noise, but once I found each one I disconnected the headphones and we were all transfixed in the kitchen listening!! Oh lord, now I really will get NO work done!! :) :) :)
Itsadogslife - Good luck with the whelping, I hope that everything goes like clockwork for mum and babies :) there is nothing like feeling those little nudges against your hands is there!
