continuing on the john barrowman theme... (and i do hope this doesn't violate TOS, its all ment in fun!)

a few years ago, right around the time the film Fantastic Four came out, many of my lady chums (and a few man chums) were going through a rough patch. additionally as it was the summer hols many were away home at the time. in order to cheer them up i sent them all an email entitled "Something for the ladies" containing the following:

http://www.webwombat.com.au/entertainment/movies/images/fantastic4-chris-evans-1.jpg

This is a bit of an epic but it just proves that your fantasy dreams can come true. It was in the 1970's.  Yeh, I know, you dont need to tell me, I am an old b........) I just saw this beautiful man on tv. His face just filled the screen. He was everything I could want in a man and he was soooooooooo talented. Fantastic singer and incredible guitarist. (music is everything to me, well nearly) and so good looking. I became obsessed with him, really obsessed. I had to meet him. How the heck was I going to do this. He was American to start with. first I joined his fan-club, never got to meet him as the people running it were not helpful. that club folded so I wrote to his promoter and asked if i could run his UK fan-club. His promotor asked to meet me at a posh hotel in Manchester and to cut a very long story short, I ran his fan club for many years. The first time I ever met him, he just appeared at the side of me. It was surreal. There was this guy I had seen on tv that day and he was standing next to me. He was even more gorgeous in real life. He held his arms out to me and I crumbled into them. He gave me a big hug and a KISS and I just melted. Over the years I have met him every time he has come over here and visited with him in the US. He now calls me his friend. I feel so privelaged. I spend his shows either in the centre front seats or backstage, waiting for him to come off stage. Wow!! After saying all that, after meeting him, the obsession faded into a healthy adoration!!! He had become real and not just a fantasy. I still get butterflies when I know I will be seeing him 37 years down the line. Hope this link works. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OcykofWTCgY  If not its the beautiful magical Glen Campbell.
I am now in love with Michael Stipe the bi-sexual singer of REM (I know, I know) Should know better at my age but its more about the music. Incredible.
- By Astarte Date 07.05.09 20:41 UTC

thank-goodness. somebody as wierd as me!!!!! Its the way he moves on stage and his totally humble attitude when he is interviewed. Next to my Glen, one of the most talented blokes in the world.

i agree. theres something about him, he is AMAAAAAZING live, he really owns the stage, his weird wee dances and his smile... *sigh* also such an awesome voice, full of emotion. ive seen them live 5 times now, and been part of the fanclub for 9 years. i met peter buck backstage after glasgow green gig a few years back, he was such a nice guy. think i would have melted had i met mr stipe....

your right about the way he comes across in interviews, a very interesting man, very intelligent and wordly wise but very humble with it.
he is my idol!

heres another one for you

Oh god I hate you. Meeting Peter buck!!!. Like you though, I wouldnt know what to say to Michael Stipe. he is just beyond any question I can think of. Would sound flat and boring.
I've seen them live 2 1/2 times. the half was in Sheffield. A massive stadium, sold out, all waiting for them to come on stage and eventually Michael and Peter ran on. Michael said something awful had happened and that Mike had been taken to hospital with a serious throat infection and they couldnt do the show. I think any other band would have sent someone on to explain but not Michael, he did it himself, and what followed was a wonderful mini acoustic set with Michael and Peter singing some really old songs. It was amazing. Went back months later to the re-arranged gig and Michael said "where were we" Am also in the fan club. a bonus for me is that he loves and respects Glen Campbell. wonderful.

a little light relief :)

yes, quoting is easy when you know and it makes threads run much more smoothly because people know who's answering what :)

yes, i remember that, they cancelled their glasgow gig the same week, and eventually rescheduled it a few months later, the same week they played loch lomond, so i ended up seeing them twice in 1 week. the backstage thing came about when i got removed from the audience, was up at front pushed against barrier, and usually im ok with that, but i ended up feeling really ill, and security removed me 2 songs from the end :( i was very annoyed but so collapsed i couldnt put up a fight. i got taken to first aid tent, put on oxygen for a bit until i recovered. i got wrapped up in one of thse silver foil blankets to warm me up, anyway, left about 30mins later, still had blanket wrapped round me, and as we left first aid tent we literally bumped into mr buck! was the best moment of my life. stood there and spluttered something like " hi....im such a big fan....really loved the gig......been a fan for ages...." and other such garble (couldnt think of anything remotely interesting to say) thankfully he was very understanding and very nice, he told me i looked like a baked potato in my foil! i'll remember it forever!

only band ive ever seen that actually come down to meet the fans, at T in the park 7 years ago, michael jumped off stage and shook hands with a load of people in front row whilst singing losing my religion, including me and my OH! they seem a genuinely nice band!
- By annieg3 [gb] Date 10.05.09 09:18 UTC
What a great story suz1985. Like you I would be dining out on that story for ever. A baked potato!!!lol wow!. Yes they are totally grounded as a band which is incredible for what I would say are the best band in the world. Must be to have sustained so long. Cant wait till they come again. Wish i could find someone my own age who is as daft as me about music. I drag my kids along with me which is no effort at all as my son is a musician and he loves them to bits too. I am 63!!!!

Earl I am fully prepared to arm wrestle (to the death if needs be) over which of us gets Josh!

In the meantime try this pic of him

http://images.fanpop.com/images/image_uploads/Josh-Holloway-josh-holloway-645032_1280_1024.jpg

Pphwoar - easily the sexiest man on TV at the moment by a long way.

Have to go and calm down now.
- By earl [fr] Date 11.05.09 08:19 UTC
Julie, there is no competition, he's mine, end of story.  I saw him first!  He is heaven!!!
- By Julie Hill [gb] Date 12.05.09 22:27 UTC
We could maybe get Josh to decide? we could stand at eithe ends of a room and call him ( or otherwise entice him!) and see who he chose?

Mind you Peter Andre is back on the market now, so ......
- By earl [fr] Date 13.05.09 09:57 UTC
There you go, sorted, you can have Peter Andre!  :)

Are you as gutted as me that Lost is nearly at an end?  I don't know how I'll cope.  My OH wasn't impressed when we went to book a holiday the other day and I said we couldn't go until next week as I didn't want to miss this season's finale on Sunday night!  I am sad, I admit it!  What's even sadder is that I shout at the tv telling Juliet how much I hate her.  I really must get a life! :)
- By mumofpip [gb] Date 13.05.09 20:08 UTC
Ooooooh, me likey this thread!!  I'm very happily married but have spent a most pleasant 10 mins drooling, sorry, looking at the pictures!

Don't suppose anyone follows MotoGP (bike version of Formula 1) - if so, look out for Marco Melandri - phowwwwaaaaarrrrr!!!

Off for a cold shower.
- By Astarte Date 13.05.09 20:38 UTC

- By mumofpip [gb] Date 13.05.09 20:56 UTC

How about this - http://hellforleathermagazine.com/images/Marco_Melandri_kawasaki.jpg

He's hot and sweaty here and his teeth look weird cos of shield, but those eyes - ohhhhhh, lush!!  Of course I'm old enough to be his mother but who cares lol.
- By Astarte Date 13.05.09 21:00 UTC

Earl I hate to tell you this but I've just watched the season finale - and it's got some great Sawyer scenes in it. But I do wish when there's a fight they would not punch him in that beautiful face!

How will I cope withouth Josh till the next season of Lost? (sighs...)
- By mumofpip [gb] Date 17.05.09 16:19 UTC
My gorgeous Marco (see my post 2 above here - not sure how to do quotes) has just proved he's not just hunky eye candy, but also a very good bike racer - came 2nd in a race in France just now!!!!  So chuffed!

Sorry, my husband's away in America and I just had to tell someone!
- By arched [gb] Date 18.05.09 09:04 UTC
This Marco.........looking at the pic, I know he needs ear protection, but it does look like he's got a bit of carrot stuck in there..................not a good look :)
- By earl [fr] Date 18.05.09 10:10 UTC
I'm glad I didn't see this before watching the season finale.  How did you see it before last night?

I've emailed offering to kiss his face better for him.  I'm devastated that it's over till next year.  Doesn't bear thinking about what I'll be like after that.  I will be genuinely distraught, sad as that may be.

I didn't expect Jacob to be such a looker, I have to say.
- By Tessies Tracey Date 18.05.09 10:19 UTC
Just watched Hi Fidelity again the other night... gotta say a looooooooong time fave of mine is John Cusack :)
- By mumofpip [gb] Date 18.05.09 14:45 UTC
Arched, yes the carrot stick isn't quite such a good look I admit but it doesn't detract from the rest of him I don't think!

OK, back to vacuuming / cleaning / making tea etc ..... isn't real life fun!
