i know alot of chocolate is poisonous for dogs , well i just went to pick my little one up from school and when i got back my 1 1/2 year old GS Pointer had opened a cupboard and scoffed a nearly full pack of jaffa cakes and a cream egg.
this also happened the other week however that time she scoffed 3 full easter eggs, a full pack of chocolate bars and 4 packs of raisens too, we took her the vets that time and she had a morphine injection to make her sick, this cost us over £105 so i am loathed to have to take her again for this !
do you think she will be okay, there isn't much chocolate on jaffa cakes or cream egg is there ???????
i know i should of put something in the way of the cupboard to stop her getting at the stuff but i was in a bit of a hurray and it slipped my mind, gonna have to get child locks on the cupboard !
any help appreciated
cheers

As jaffa cakes are dark chocolate then yes a visit to the vets would be in order. Better to be safe than sorry.

You could 'phone the vets and ask them if you need to take her in, I know our vets will advise over the 'phone weather the dogs needs seeing or weather they can be monitored at home.

We keep chocolate either in the fridge or in high cupboards to keep it out of the dogs reach.

just phoned the vets and they said she should be okay as she is young and a medium size dog (26 kilo's). said to watch out for her vomiting though, put my mind at rest anyway. thanks all who replied

here are the figures taken from another post
>>This list is the amounts of the various products a 10kg dog would need to ingest to require treatment. Obviously the quantities would extrapolate up or down for different sized dogs.
White chocolate: 22 kg (!!)
Drinking choc powder: 400g
Milk chocolate: 90-134g
Plain/dark chocolate: 2.5-45g

It never ceases to amaze me where people find this information!

One of my Shelties ate about 35grams of choccy several months ago she looked well pleased with herself at the time :) but very unhappy after a vet visit and the up-chuck of chocolate soup :(
Not as unhappy as OH though as he got a serious verbal for leaving the stuff on the side of the sofa :(

I'm sure it will be fine...but tell me...how did the dog eat the Cream Egg??? I always lick the middle out first!
As you've already said, better to be safe than sorry and put items higher up in cupboards out of reach, or use child locks!!! :-)
Probably made it go "goo" and then just licked it up! OOOOH I feel Easter 2010 advert coming on:-)
Mine had the ears off a Lindt chocolate bunny this year, hope she doesn't refuse to pick up the real thing cos it doesn't taste of chocolate!
