Topic Dog Boards / General / My cocker spaniel is becoming a right wuus.

My daughter took my two cocker spaniels to a girlfriends for tea. There was an enormous garden to run around and three little toddlers.  Jesse was fine she ran round the garden having lots of fun.  Plenty new smells to sniff.  Bentley my 4 year old.  Sat on my daughters lap and would not budge. If she moved he climbed further up her lap.  When she went to have her tea he just sat underneath her chair.  This is so not like him, he is a friendly outgoing dog.  Has lots of doggie friend when he goes to the park.  Admittedly he has not seen my daughter for four months as she lives in israel.

This problem has never occurred before and he usually follows Jesse around.  His health is fine and is very lively at home.  I can't understand what got into him.  Any idea?

Three little toddlers waddling around unsteadily and making high pitched noises would make me sit under a chair too! :)

I'd agree and suggest it may well have been the toddlers worrying him :)

Also it's a bit unfair to say your dog is a wuss, because he's simply being a dog and trying to communicate how he's feeling.

OTOH, if he continues to seem unlike his usual more outgoing self, I'd suggest a vet visit as, although you say his health is fine, sometimes
a change in behaviour can mean that there is a clinical problem which can't always be detected without something like a blood test :)
