just had a e-mail about lands end to john o groats bike ride to be done by mark asking for sponsorship

On Wednesday 13th May 2009 I am getting on my bike and attempting to complete the 875 mile trip from Lands End to John O'Groats in order to raise much needed funds for Eldwick and Gilstead Cricket Club.Fuelled by bananas, energy bars and the odd pint or two I hope, body permitting, to finish the journey 10 days later.

Eldwick and Gilstead Cricket Club has been in existence since 1896 and has played at its present ground for the past 30 years. The wooden clubhouse has no running water or electricity and is in urgent need of renovation.

The club runs 2 junior teams in the Bradford Junior League and 2 senior teams in the Craven & District League. The club has a very young membership with the majority of the players in the 1st and 2nd teams being under 18. Last year one of our young players Simon Timperley, who started with the club as a junior, broke a league record returning the remarkable figures of 10 wickets for just 2 runs. I am hoping to raise £500 which will cover the ground rent for the forthcoming season and enable the club to start next season on a level footing. Should I be fortunate enough to exceed my target any surplus will be divided equally between the cricket club and Sustrans, the UK's leading sustainable transport charity.

Mark Roach is the owner of this board.
