Coming back form a dog walk yesterday about noon I noticed that my car door did not look properly shut, and glancing in saw the stuff which is normally in the glove compartment was on the front seat - someone had broken in! A quick check showed all doors were only part shut, obviously whoever did it didn't want to to risk the noise from closing them all the way. Only thing missing was my show bag! Which meant all the show leads, coat prep products, scissors & grooming tools, bait bags, water dishes, sprays, crate fan, towels etc. etc. etc - you know how the list goes on. It was an awful feeling, I knew some of the leads could not be replaced, and lots of them had sentimental value, having been the first leads from dogs who are no longer with us. Called police (who were very helpful) and insurance company, and then took a quick tour round village in case I could spot anything discarded. Turning a corner about 200 yards from my cottage I spotted something bright pink on the ground by a builders skip - it was my grooming roll, and checking it almost all the leads, scissors, brushes were still in it! I was elated. The builders on site said it had been in with the rubbish when they arrived in the morning. Back home and calls to police and insurance to update on found items, then printed off some "reward" posters and put them in local shops. Just after teatime I got a phone call - a man introduced himself with, "You don't know me and this may sound very odd, but do you have dogs and have you lost anything?" Turns out he had found my bag in his driveway, just a few houses down the lane from me. And no, he had not seen my wanted posters, but had looked in the bag, found a Scottish Pug catalogue, noticed the pug luggage label, and so googled "Pug" and the name of the village - coming up with me on Champdogs! So thanks CD, thanks to this site I got my stuff back :)
