Topic Dog Boards / General / how much should we be feeding him??
- By gadger [gb] Date 20.04.09 18:25 UTC
can someone give us some guidelines on how much we should be feeding our labrador retriever please. he's 18 months old, a good weight and seems very happy in himself but we're not sure if we're feeding him enough. he eats dry working dog food.. normally 2 cups in the morning and 2 in the evening..is that enough???

thanks in advance..

If he is the right weight, not too fat (Should be able to feel his ribs ) and not too thin, fit and active then you seem to have it just right. Feed by eye and not by quantity, if he is too thin then a little more if too fat then a little less. Sounds like you are doing fine as you are. If you feed to his idea of how much (As he is a Lab!!) he will be as fat as butter...LOL

its hard to say without seeing him, as merlot says its all by eye and there is no set quantity. if you run your hands over his ribs you should feel them without pushing but not see them clearly again as merlot says.

labs are know to be piggy piggies so be careful!
