I like st bernards i think they are beautiful dogs, but i will never have one because they are to big for my house, & i wouldnt want slobber all over the place. :)

So what dog would you like but wouldnt have & why?
All replies welcome.
- By Crespin Date 18.04.09 12:15 UTC
I wouldnt have a standard poodle.  I love them, think they are gorgeous!  BUT all that grooming!  Cant devote hours upon hours a day to groom them.  Maybe one day I will show one, but probably never own one!

> & i wouldnt want slobber all over the place

LOL, I allready have a slobbery dog :)

I would love a Malamute or Husky, but they are far too much for me in so much as the amount of mental & physical stimulation they need. It would mean a total lifestyle change for me, which I am not convinced I could permenently manage :( So I am destined to stick with the Mastiff, a challenge to train, but a couch potato at heart - just like me, LOL.
- By fifi [gb] Date 18.04.09 12:32 UTC
I would love a saluki but could never have a dog that I cant let off the lead without worrying that it will disappear into the horizon
- By tina s [gb] Date 18.04.09 13:33 UTC
would love a bassett but too smelly and too much slobber and cant get back if onto a trail of scent. dallies but too many white hairs and too loony. basenji but again, cant be let off lead. great dane just for the beauty but too big and short lived!
- By Snoop Date 18.04.09 13:49 UTC
I would love a Great Dane but OH says "No!"  :-(

I haven't given up just yet though. ;-)
- By fiona79 [in] Date 18.04.09 14:31 UTC
I would love to have a maltese .... having the collies and the shelties though it just isnt practical to have one .... not at the moment anyway.... poor l;ittle thing would never be white :(  maybe one day my dream will come true......... the other thing that I would LOVE to have is a cat , again not practical to where we live as there is a main road right outside .. supposed to do 30 but some cars go past at least 60 :( I couldnt have a cat thinking it would be always avoiding the cars . But I happy with the collies and the shelties and apart from a maltese I wouldnt want any other breed .. collies are the world hehehe

An Irish Wolfhound .     Lovely dogs but much too big for me !
- By furriefriends Date 18.04.09 16:31 UTC
Yes mastifflover I'm with you would love a malamute or husky but I couldn't manage their needs either so will admire from a far.
- By ceejay Date 18.04.09 16:33 UTC
A second one!
- By Goldmali Date 18.04.09 16:33 UTC
St Bernard for me too -have really wanted one since the 80's but realise they are too slow for me and they would probably not suit me, I get on best with really fast, super energetic dogs.
- By welshlassy [gb] Date 18.04.09 16:45 UTC
A Nova skota, saw one years ago at a dog show, wouldn't have one because of their exercise requirments wouldn't be fair.  Also Chinese creasted never have one because OH doesn't like um, then again could just get rid of other half........rather tempting of late i tell you!
- By malwhit [ru] Date 18.04.09 17:15 UTC
I love the look of Akitas but would never own one as all the ones I have seen are nasty with other dogs and can not be trusted off the lead.
- By Tigger2 Date 18.04.09 17:23 UTC
There are a few breeds I'd like to go with my current pack.

I'm on a waiting list for a saluki pup but the mating may never happen.

I'd love a GSD but won't get one because they require more 'one to one' time as pups than I can offer at the moment.

I adore silken windhounds, but rarity value and availability means I'll probably never actually own one.

One day I will own a golden retriever, probably when the collies are gone - it can be my next 'well behaved pet' - always good to have a trainable dog with the hounds :-)
- By dachmad [gb] Date 18.04.09 17:24 UTC
Wouldn't want anything .only what I have now but a lot more of them GSDs and Min iDachies.
- By suejaw Date 18.04.09 18:16 UTC
I too love the Akita, though all the ones i have come across have been lovely dogs and not a cross word from them. This has been at shows where they are in and out around dogs the whole time.

I couldn't have one due to their high prey drive and my current location of living. Never know in the future though..
- By tooolz Date 18.04.09 18:18 UTC
I'd love a Rottweiller but probably wont.Terrific dogs- I love them but the hassle with the general public
(especially during news headline 'flare -ups') would get on my wick!
I'd love a GSD and most likely will when the last Boxer has gone.
- By roscoebabe [gb] Date 18.04.09 18:40 UTC
A Borzoi, such a graceful dog,not like my lot!
- By goldie [gb] Date 18.04.09 19:49 UTC
I would love an english setter, but know i wont get one as my first love is goldies.
Given a choice i know it would be the goldie at the end of the day.
- By dexter [gb] Date 18.04.09 20:19 UTC
I probably won't have any different breeds to what i have now, as my heart is with the gundogs and my two breeds :) but i really love a lot of the working breeds.
- By paulaj [gb] Date 18.04.09 20:21 UTC
Ohh i'd love an Otterhound or 2 :-)  probably will never have one but i can dream, LOL  we think of ours as otterhounds in training, LOL
- By Sue H Date 18.04.09 20:56 UTC
APBT!  Love the breed, have admired them for years. Obviously it will never happen, but still love them.
- By magica [gb] Date 19.04.09 08:01 UTC
I would really love to own a rottweiler, bull mastiff or Rhodesian ridge back but since I have had big dogs all my life seem be going onto small types- I have set my heart on a Dandie Dinmont next.

Dogs of any type or breed seem to come and happen in my life, first a rescue Belgian shepherd then a blagged bull terrier- so in the next 5 years time I could end up with anything!
- By molezak [gb] Date 19.04.09 08:01 UTC
Ahh Paulaj, after looking after a pack of Minkhounds, those big hairy hounds are lovely but I wouldn't want one lol!

A dream-will-never-happen dog would be a Standard Poodle for me as they are so far removed from what I've got in terms of looks and temperament... I'd love to prepare and show one... absolutely no time for one now and hubby wouldn't give one house room :o(

Bavarian Mountain Hound one day...
- By blackandgrey [gb] Date 19.04.09 08:06 UTC
I'd like a border terrrier but my son doesn't like their rough coats so it'll be at least 4 years till he leaves home and I can get one. I'd also like a black working cocker, a sort of Mini Me for the flatcoats:-)
- By Astarte Date 19.04.09 10:11 UTC

snap :)

I'd love to have a black show type Cocker but my OH doesn't like them :-( I'd also love to have a sable & white Rough Collie and an OES, but to be honest I can't see myself having anything other than a Samoyed, CKCS and Malamute now.

I love St Bernards too - my friend has a gorgeous St Bernard bitch and she is so gentle, I don't think I could cope with the slobber though either.
- By Wizaid [gb] Date 19.04.09 16:18 UTC
I would really really love a show springer :o) but OH will only let me have one dog LOL .....so I know I will never have one !
- By TrishlovesMiley [gb] Date 19.04.09 16:24 UTC
I would love a chinese crested but my oh doesn't like them either. They are so different and totally funky looking! Maybe one day. For now i am happy with my Boxers and pug. P.s haven't been on for a while...... have missed you all! :)
- By toffeecrisp [gb] Date 19.04.09 17:12 UTC
I would love an Irish Wolf Hound..have adored these dogs from afar...joy of joys i saw one in the vet on fri!!!! I nearly passed out with excitement(stupid me). He was beautiful. My little house wont be big enough, so Im sticking with my little toy girls. OH wants a Pyrenian..big hairy hearth rugs!!!
- By Merlot [de] Date 19.04.09 17:18 UTC
I would love a Mal and/or a Borzoi love both breeds but not for me at the moment.
I have not the time not the physical ability for a Mal (would want to run it but have not got the knees any more) and a borzoi is too much with the rest of the pack!

Aww it's all the fur that makes me love em :-D
- By Wizaid [gb] Date 19.04.09 19:27 UTC
I looked after my friends Irish Wolf Hound for a few days, it was the funniest time in my life, I didn't think about the fact he could pinch things off the work surface or the fact he took up the whole floor in my lounge and he peed like a elephant - he was the most gentle giant, to watch him play with my GR was one of the most wonderful experiences, they were the best of friends.
- By Otterhound Date 19.04.09 20:42 UTC
I would love to have a Clumber Spaniel but I know I never will unless I win the lotto, pups cost a small fortune :( and there are never any Clumbers in Rescue.
- By jimboddb [ie] Date 19.04.09 21:17 UTC
I'd love a Neo but dont think I'll ever be able for them!
- By Stormy84 [au] Date 20.04.09 07:25 UTC
Neo for me too.... I just think they are absolutely amazing dogs. So imposing... however probably a bit too much dog for me. Maybe one day if I marry a body building, dog lover who can walk him for me :-) (that was a joke).
- By Whistler [gb] Date 20.04.09 10:37 UTC
A boxer dog like Bengo!! my aunt had a beauty called Shira that I loved but she could not handle her so she got rid of her I was 11. Called all my females Shira ever since but OH thinks they slobber too much and are nervy.......  But I wish!!!!!
- By Carrington Date 20.04.09 11:18 UTC
Funnily enough hubby and I were talking about this the other day.

Once my girl here passes over, we want to be dogless for a few years, do a world cruise, really travel around the world again with no ties hopefully with the boys too. But then we both want to have a couple of dogs to retire with. I've always wanted to end my days with a Rough Collie or two, came into this world with them and want to go out with them too.

However we were in 2 minds as to whether to sell up and retire quietly with a couple of RC's, or stay where we are and get a couple of Flatcoats and Curly coated retrievers, I've really got a thing for Curly's at the moment. I've also gone a bit soppy for Spinone's. I would love so many breeds of dog but age is not on our side, given that you need to give a good 10-15 years to a dog we decided it wasn't fair, what if we are not so fit 25 years from now?  So age has dictated that we will eventually sell up and settle with 2 RC's for nice country strolls, not complaining though. :-D It was always my first option, however I can still dream of having a large number of other breeds. :-)

Foxhound but not set up for one.
Jeff.
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 20.04.09 12:20 UTC
Rough Collie but the type that I was brought up with.  Though in reality I think the Spanish Water Dog will be with me forever, I've had them for 17 years now and still adore them even though they can have their moments.
- By Whistler [gb] Date 20.04.09 12:21 UTC
I think we are of an age Carrington. I have our two at two years old so we will be really past it when they get to their old age. So I think when we finally retire a couple of rescues with our two will do.
Luckily enough both kids are doggie people so they can have our house and money with the dogs, or the dogs get the dosh!!
I cannot see my OH and us with out dogs - Whickers was there when I was born and one will be there when I pop my clogs. Ive got my spot picked down my woods with my beloved dogs and OH can come unless his is a burial and I dont think thats allowed. Its the place I love best.

My Dad did a round the world cruise on P&O and had a great time, its one we will do one day as well.
- By yorkies4eva [gb] Date 20.04.09 12:36 UTC
Pomaranian or Irish Red Setter... couldnt have either because i live at home and also because of the grooming of both dogs, yes i have yorkies, but i get him cut now as i couldnt cope with his coat! :)
- By dilemma199 [gb] Date 20.04.09 15:22 UTC
a miniature wirehaired dachshund, after over a year of waiting lists and being let down I gave up and got a pug, would really love one, I know they exist but they are impossible to get hold of!
- By dollface Date 20.04.09 16:46 UTC
American Bulldog, Presa, Cane Corso and a Bodeaux- but gave up on all of em- we are just gonna get a Mastiff when the last Boston passes on and maybe a Frenchie or another Boston or just stick with one dog being the Mastiff...  Some day children will be all grown and will have grandkids so need a big lump of a dog who is layed back :-) and trusting with kids.

I like danes love their size but prefer the pushed in faces- now all I need is the look of the Dane with the Mastiffs face lol Guess I'll just make sure our mastiff stays very fit :-)
- By bevb [gb] Date 20.04.09 16:56 UTC
I'd love a Newfoundland or a Springer Spaniel.  But by the time Milo and Shady are no longer with me then, I shall be far too old and geriatric to manage or give them what they need.
- By joby [gb] Date 20.04.09 20:57 UTC
id love a newfie, they are so adorable but much to big, hairy and slobbery! id like a frenchie and maybe a shiba too.

Am defintly never saying never my hubby said i couldnt have a chinese crested with our akitas and i got one of them so who knows whats next lol x
- By MandyC [gb] Date 20.04.09 21:14 UTC

Me too, but i have set my heart on a harlequin...and i WILL get one, one day, for now the Rotts & Dogues keep me busy every minute of everyday, Harlequin Danes are stunning looking animals :)
- By Freds Mum [gb] Date 21.04.09 09:26 UTC
Ooo what a good question, there are many dogs i would love to experience, top on my list would be a GSD or maybe a weimeraner, i quite like the look of rotties too but nor really been around them enough to know about their personalitys. Unfortunately although BF would love us to get a GSD too it isnt really practical when we are talking about the future and having children etc. Maybe one day :-)  Would love a standard poodle to go with my miniature in the not too distant future.
- By cornishmals [gb] Date 21.04.09 13:15 UTC
Another half dozen Mals, one more CED and to win the lottery so I could afford a huge house,30 acres with a lake and woodland, and hired help of course. lol.
