the story starts like this, this girl i know got a free to GOOD home springer last year, he was fab appart from he pulled, easy enough to conker, three weeks later i found out that she had let it out because she didnt want it, i was furious, i know were not all perfect with our dogs, but i mean...........

4weks ago she got this lab x, i seen him he was beautifull, i loved him, then last week happy with this she introduced a staf x, both got on well, i had suspicions about it as i know what kind of person she is, well yesterday i got a call from my partner sayin this so n so wanted rid of the lab x because it was weeing and chewing, and now she got her wish, i mean what do you do, you can chose your pals but not family, i hate her at the moment, i want to report her but i cant cause bother between familys, i want to say something but i wont be able to control my actions, now this lab x which would have been fantastic on a farm has been palmed off to someone else, for the (i dont no how manyth) time, its absolutely shocking and i cant relax thinking of him, if i never had 4 of my own i would have taken him,

I would probably say something, thats me though.  I know a person who in the few years I have known her, has had about 5 or 6 dogs, each one gotten rid of not long after they got it.  It makes me so sad, because I look at my guys, and cant for the life of me think how someone could give their dogs away.  Cher will be here for her life, and her pup that I keep, it will be the same thing.

Why do people get dogs, and then just get rid of them?  If they arent ready, they shouldnt get one!

Makes me mad and sad at the same time.

There seems to be so many people who see a dog as the latest accessory or are under the illusion that they come fully trained.

One of our neighbours has a small breed which in 10 years I have NEVER seen being taken for a walk. It is a lovely wee thing but has no social skills and wees inself every time it meets someone or another dog. Now that it is getting on a bit has been replaced by the latest 'trendy' breed which will probably never get walked either.

A client got a cocker but couldn't cope with the destruction it caused while she was out at work ALL DAY and the fact that it made noises during the night!!!! Even though I had told her about the amount of work it took to keep an active breed like a cocker happy. She has now got rid of the cocker (thankfully to a fantastic home) and bought herself a 'trendy' X breed.

Very sad for these poor passed-around dogs.

People like this should never own pets. They are accessories to them that can be replaced with a flick of a switch. I would say something, family or not. Its the dogs that are suffering. You could put an anonymous call in so you don't have to confront her? I would be just like you so furious!!

My cousin (idiot) had a rabbit and kept it in her purse!!! It of course died. I was not aware she even had one till it was dead otherwise she would have got an earful. She is retarded and went and got a puppy, which she neglected... UGH!

I doubt it very much, they are useless at the best of times but when they are needed, even worse.
Do you know where this 'person' is getting the dogs from?? If it is a dogs home(which does sound unlikely) perhaps you can inform them of the situation??

These dim people are everywhere!

I have worked in the same pet shop for 3 and a half years and know a woman who has had 3 staffy crosses in that time.

She gets a puppy, all is good for a while, then remembers that she has 2 young daughters and the pup becomes "too much work","bites too much", "chewed my shoes" etc and promptly gets shoved off on someone else. Then about 6 months later she does the same thing over again!!

I nearly had one of them once, a lovely staffy/EBT cross who got the shove because she was "too boistorous"!

Needless to say the woman makes no effort to train her dogs. I don't understand why she thinks the new puppy will be any different than the last one

She is on her third currently, I'd put money on it being gone by June.

This sort of thing does make me cross!  But I've found that you get two types of dog owners.

I had a call from someone with two young children - two and a half years and 5 months!  Wanted to put a deposit on a puppy!  I explained on the telephone about how much hard work her girls must be, and a puppy would be like having a 3rd child.  She was pretty adamant, and wanted to see the pups.  I made it abundantly clear that I would wish to see her childs interaction with the litter etc.

Well, to be fair, she drove two and a half hours to see me, and stayed almost 3 hours!  She fell in love with a pup, and really wanted to leave a deposit.  I just sat and patiently explained all the disadvantages (I almost convinced myself!)  She was loving the interaction with the pups, and loved how socialised and confident they were, and I told her how she had to keep up what I had started.  Told her about puppy classes etc.  I also told her just how many adverts I see from people who took on a puppy without enough thought, and then advertised them because the children were enough work!  I explained that my pups needed forever homes.

She decided to go home and discuss all I had told her with her husband.  I received an email last night thanking me for all my time, and could she go an a "suitability" list for when her children were older.  So I do think I prefer the second type of potential owner!!!  I'm afraid that the other "type" get really annoyed with me and go off elsewhere for a pup!
