Does anyone on here do adult handling at the shows and if so, would you tell me a little more about what goes on?  What type of things does the judge ask for?  Are there a certain number a year and finals etc.  Do they have many catagories and if so, are there many entries?  Any info on it would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks, Dawn R

I'm also interested in this and have asked for help from a local mentor at our ringcraft club, he is more than happy to help me, so maybe you could find someone in your ringcraft. As for asnwering your questions i can't as not even started doing the training yet..

Good luck to you as well./

I've done some adult handling - the handling is pretty much as in junior handling - if you have a look at www.juniorhandling.co.uk, it might give you more info ('adult handling' down left-hand column), and the girl who has the website is very helpful if you email her (Marina, she is an ex junior handler) - my daugher has got her book, which has been very helpful for anyone serious about handling.  Some shows have Adult Handling which don't qualify for anything, but others qualify for a national final (some pics of winners of this year's on the jh website).

Hi dawn

Looking at a couple of the schedules i have got 1st 2nd and 3rd all qualify you for coventry ladies kennel society adult handler clases with is being held sometime in 2010 a bit like the junior handeling for richmond. There is a lady that goes to ringcraft on a tuesday night (lucy i think her name is) who is a member on here lucydogs i think, she has the cockers who goes in for adult handeling so either terry or her would be the best people to ask.

What do you want to know! :-D

Alot of shows are now putting on adult handling.  Afew are qualifiers at Companion and Open Shows for the  Coventry Adult Handling Finals which are held in March.

The judging is the same s the Juniors.  there are no set guidelines for how to judge junior handling but the simple way to describe it is the person who shows their dog the best, normally asked for a triangle and up and down, and then if competition high T's and L's come into play!

The classes at shows are split by age at discretion of the shows commitee, the Adult handling Finals are split into age groups.

Go to afew shows and watch the junior/adult handling.  It's not hard or scarey at all. :)

That's right, the Coventry Ladies Kennel - I qualified for that this year, think it was held in February or March, though I didn't go.  At the show where I qualified, there were three age groups, and we were asked to do quite basic things, just a triangle, and a reverse up and down, show dog's teeth - but then the judge was picking up on things such as someone not holding the lead in the right hand when showing dog's teeth, and the obvious, handler going between dog and judge.

Thanks all for your advice.

I will keep my eye out for any adult handling competitions on and watch.

My question is actually for another person (as anyone who has seen my handling will know - a bit like Calamaty Jane!) - so I don't think I'm quite in that league yet.  Lots of ringcraft needed for me..........

Thanks again everyone.

I've taken part in a few adult handling classes and qualified Coventry Ladies both last year and this coming year.  Very similar to the junior handling classes, a mix of triangles, t's, and points of dog.  Numbers in classes in Midlands reasonably strong.

Strong classes for all 4 age groups when we get to the final.
