We've had new pup now for four weeks and he's doing really well with his housetraining. I thought he was doing even better until I discovered that when he has peed in the house our old girl will go and lick it up :-O Both my son and I have caught her doing this and just said no and cleaned it up. Can you think of any reason why she would do this?

I have no answer for you but my situation is the opposite and whenever the older bitch does a poo, the pup will try to eat it.  Once I have picked up the poo he will try to get to the spot and lick it and try to roll in it.  He is really gross but I've not found a solution yet.

It is natural for a bitch to clean up after a puppy, so she's following her instincts really.

Really! She has  never had pups of her own and isn't particularly dog friendly but has been so tolerant with him. I'll try keep the door open now that weather has picked up.

If you put him outside every hour, on the hour (staying with him), toilet training will speed up loads, and you will be on your way to avoiding the indoor wees that your girl is drawn to.

Every hour! I wish LOl :-). We've been doing every 15/20 minutes during the day and every 3/4 hours during the night but he does go straight away. Its just the odd accident he has had in between those times and in fairness to him they are usually next to the back door.

Lol, I'm walking around like a zombie. Its 5 years since we had our last pup and I had forgotten how much hard work they are. I was thinking this morning hopefully by next easter I should be getting a full night sleep. I'm wishing his little puppyhood away.

Well done on your new pup. Don't worry about the older bitch, she has excepted the new baby as part of the pack and wants to do her fair share of work helping to look after him. It's great when you have an older dog to help and teach the new pup how to be a good member of the family. :)

Thanks Vinya.

Our old girl is ten and has been brilliant with him from day one. After four weeks I think our five year old girl has accepted that he's here to stay, Lol. She was first of all scared of him, then she ignored him and looked at me as if to say "what have you done!" Now she has started to sniff him and even play occasionally. I'm so happy that its working out but soo tired. I don't know how people who get two pups together cope.
