What do you store your dry dog food in. I have a bin I got in the States called a Vittles vault it has a screw top lid and is flatcoat proof! I'm getting a pup who will be on a different food, for a while anyway and don't want grown up dog getting at pup food any ideas?

I use a standard black rubbish bin from B&Q that has metal clamps/handles that clip up over the lid. HAs so far defeated my rotties attempts to get into it, despite sporting some rather chewed areas on the lid.

Not the most stylish, but it serves it's purpose, plus it was a bargain at around £8 - I wasn't going to pay £25 for a PAH one just because it was a better colour and came with a scoop.

I've got 4 big storage bins, some were free when buying 2 x 15kg bags, some were given by Breeders Clubs run by certain suppliers...I certainly wouldn't pay over £10 for one!

Spare bags in the hall cupboard: open bag/s in the utility room cupboard: I then decant the food into a smaller container that lives on the worksurface - I use a large bucket with lid that I buy fat balls in.

We use an old picnic box - the old type that doubled as a cooler but always too heavy to carry to the beach!! It holds about 5kg of food and the lid is very tight, I struggled when the weight of food goes down a bit, rest of food in hall cupboard. Treats go in an old biscuit tin or tub.

Big storage bins out of Ikea, they stack on top of each other & I've managed to get about 26 kg of food into one.

I use plastic storage tubs (4 for £10 from Morrisons) to keep my dogs food in.  I could get about 10kg in each and I like it this way as they are easier to move than one giant heavy container.

I use anything I can put somewhere the dogs cannot reach!

I once had a plastic dog food storage bin, with a snap on lid, that I thought was fool proof.   Had 2 GSDs, a Cairn and a Yorkie at the time.  The bin sat on the kitchen floor and held 40 lbs of dry dog food, so this was a really big bin.   One day I came home and fed the dogs.  Took the lid of the bin off as usual and scooped out the food.  I thought my Cairn looked really big ... and she ate her dinner very slowly.  Very odd, usually I had to restrain her for eating her own food in a second and than rushing to one of my benevolent GSD's dishes to shove her face in there for more.

A couple of days later, same thing happened.  My Cairn looked like she had been pumped up with air like a balloon - ate her dinner very, very slowly.   Something was clearly wrong.   So this time I examined the bin very closely.   I noticed teeth marks along the rim of the lid.   To this day I do not know how she did it, but somehow she had managed to prise the lid up enough ... and then shove herself into the bin to eat until she nearly burst - without the lid coming off completely or the entire bin falling on its side, so to me everything looked as normal.   From then on I kept the bin up on a chair and all was well!

Next time I saw my Cairn looked that big was about a week before she had 4 puppies ..... :-)

I use these, I find them fantastic and the dogs can't get near them.  They come in 2 sizes, 25 kg and 10 kg.

Hi Tarn

Yes they are very good value for money and another good thing is, as the food gets less in the storage bag, the storage bag flattens so it doesnt take up very much room.  I would say that I don't think the 10 kg one holds as much as that, I would say 7.5 kg.  I am not sure about the 25kg one though.  I have two 10kg ones as both my dogs have different food.
