I was in the park today with my boy, loads of kids about due to Easter Hols.

Started talking to a lady who i've never met before and our dogs were playing about. Out of no where i noticed this couple with a kid taking photos, had no idea what they were taking until they stopped at us. This woman without askign me continued to take photos of my boy, she then said her daughter liked his tail(how odd), she wasn't taking any photos of his tail but kept trying to get his head.

They seemed harmless enough hence why i didn't stop them, but did wonder about if afterwards. As they people can use any photo of your dog for anything.. They also took a photo of this ladies BF she had with her and her Lab.

Anyone else had this?

i get people taking photos of mine ALL THE TIME i can partly understand it has danes arent a popular breed so you dont see many especially harls, although i do think not asking is rude.
not many people do ask though, it tends to be the more senior ones that ask. i always say to my other half that a should charge 1 per photo and 50p per stroke, i would be able to feed all 4 with the proceeds.

I would be rich on the stroking part. Large/giant breeds do tend to attract a lot of attention..
I'm probably thinking too much into this then.. Live and let live i guess

yep, good to keep an eye out but people are fascinated by the larger breeds. how many times can you say you hear "wouldnt want your food bill" and "bet you can put a saddle on that?" i have a set in stone smile now and act as if i havent heard it before especially in the last 15 minutes since we left the house.

strangely yes i get a lot of japanese taking photos, i always thought it was because with it being a large city that not many of them have dogs and are taking photo's as they arent seen too often.

I was at a show once, holding one of my aunts Dobermans while the car was getting loaded up.  A girl (about 10 years old or so) came up to me, and asked if she could take a photo of the dog for her project.  I assumed it was for school, and asked what class she had this project for.  She said it wasnt for school, but she wanted to get photos of the competition!  So I said "Unfortunately, this isnt my dog. So I cant say yes or no.  If you want to wait a minute, then you can ask the owner when she comes back from the van."  The girl huffed, and walked off.  Dont know if she wanted to take photos of the dog show competition, or the Doberman competition (I noticed the next day she was hanging round the doberman ring). 
I get asked a lot at shows, if someone can take a photo of the dog I am holding.  Especially if I am holding both a Min Pin and a Doberman!  LOL  must look kinda strange to some people! 

I'm always being stopped and actually don't mind, I quite like it that they think my dogs are nice enough to be photographed.  I'm very into photography at the moment and sometimes do put them on the web, but on a photography site to see if my photography is improving, I always ask the owners if they mind.

I am going to start putting watermarks on them though as many of my dogs are turning up on websites claiming to be someone elses!!

On the other side people have been asking me to take photos recently and then ask for me to e-mail them so that they can print them off, thus costing me money but them nothing, which is a bit of a cheek!

I think it would be a sad world though if people interested in photography were stopped from doing such things, it's already happening sadly and makes me wonder how people will be able to see what is going on in our life time pictorially as there are so many dogooders etc. trying to stop photography taking place in public places.

Good grief...are there a lot of Japanese around Smithdown road? I've never seen any on my way through there?? Lots of Afro caribbean folk??

We have a Bichon Frise and Japanese love taking photos of him, its is laughable that they shoo us out of the pic and crouch down so that they are in the frame with a big "cheesy" smile.....

That's weird, I've had exactly the same experience! Was in the street (Dundee) with my Coton when a car pulled up, a Japanese couple got out and asked to take a photo, they also asked me to get out of the picture and crouched down with the dog, they were grinning like it had made their day!
Maybe little fluffy white dogs are popular in Japan?!

I think its a dog thing... particularly very cute or very tiny or very large dogs.. rather than a breed thing, with Japanese tourists - ive been out with a friend and her st bernard and they alllllll want their picture taken with him - havent taken my deerhound to anywhere touristy yet but i should imagine we will get the same response.

Its something you just dont see much of in Japan.

If these people were tourists from say Japan or another country then it wouldn't even cross my mind to allow them. This was an English couple with their daughter and the woman just kept clicking away at all angles, just thought the way she went about doing it was very odd indeed. Just hope they had no ulterior motive.

One of our dogs (collie x retriever) was playing in a stream in the Lake District, having a good old splash around, when a car full of Japanese tourists came over and took absolutely loads of photos! I just kept well out of the way, didn't want me being shown to all their friends and relatives when they got home ;-)

Know what you mean my OH and I were on holiday in Maldives and the Japanses couple made as much converstaion as we could, telling me the turtle was out ect. When they left they took pictures of her with us and him with us. Probably a warning to their kids of what beached white whales look like!! and keep eating the tofu. They were really sweet.

When were in Ireland last year, we travelled around with our 2 Danes, they were photgraphed everyplace we went, and stroked and patted, took us ages to walk up the street!! lol
Especially kids, asking is that Scooby Doo!!! lol

LOL. Glad it's not just me!  The one that really gets me is 'who's taking who for a walk?' despite the fact they walk beautifully to heel!  We get lots of American tourists here and they just adore my Leo, I often tell them I charge for photos but they don't get the British sense of humour and do actually try to pay me!!!
