I wonder, if anyone would know why two of my puppies were born bald , vet says he never saw it before , but they are healthy and doing well just mostly bald

is their hair growing now?
- By K9Dog Date 05.04.09 14:29 UTC
Yes I have seen it before in pups born slightly premature. The fur should start to grow fairly quickly. As you know pups are unable to regulate their own body temp in the first week of life and take in warm and cold from their surroundings, just keep a close eye on the hairless ones.By 10 days they should be back furry like the others.

I had that in 1 litter but only the leg was bald and the rest of him was not as furry as the others- def from being born to young that was what my vet told me- the fur does grow in fast....

Thank you for reply.
The  pups are three months old now , they were full time ,three were fine one little baldy is doing well and one is sickly.
I may have a decision to make if he continues not to thrive but im hoping he will be ok.Thanks again

Umm that sounds bad to me,  yes had it in premature pups but never, ever at this stage.  By week 2 they've always been hairy.  This has been in Pomeranian's never my Spanish.

Could this be a side effect of puppy head gland disease or strangles, or demodectic mange, maybe I am misunderstanding.

Hi Barbara
No  he had no mange, puppy was born mostly bald,  he  was getting small  heart attacks, according to my vet ,and was in pain, and not thriving,
so that is why I allowed him  be pts which was very upsetting .
I will not be breeding from the mother  again, and will inform the  owners of the other puppies what happened , and see what they want to do
guess thats all I can do at this stage
