Topic Dog Boards / General / Can anyone recommend a good dog boot
- By dynamodrago [gb] Date 30.03.09 02:09 UTC
Hi all,

Im looking for a bit of advice if anyone can help. The area where I live is becoming increasingly bad for being littered with broken glass and despite my best efforts to avoid it my 3 yr old lab has had 3 relatively bad cuts on her paws. I've been looking into the idea of buying dog boots to prevent this and I have bought every brand that my local pet shop sells, however none of these seem to stay on her and im having to constantly fix them every few mins. Can anyone recommend a good dog boot that they have used before that actually stays on. Also, as a side point is there any supplements etc that I can but that strengthen the skin on the paws.

Many thanks

Mick

Hi Mick,

I haven't needed to use a boot before but if you use the search facility on the site you may come up with some info on the best buys.  I seem to remember a thread about them a couple of months ago which might help.  I'll try to find some info for you too :)

To strengthen the pad I'd recommend witch hazel - easily available at any pharmacy.  Also for any cuts not too deep and which are clean and dry try applying spray on elastoplast or a product called newskin which will seal small cuts, grazes and wounds temporarily to avoid dirt getting into them and blood spotting over carpets etc.

HTH mean time,
Teri

Have a look at THESE ONES - they seem particularly heavy duty, maybe more so than you're after as this is proper doggy sportswear :-p

You could also try the on-line shop at Agility Net  or else have a look at the selection on Canine Concepts

Hopefully something on there will suit your needs - as a general rule with these type of items you get what you pay for so IMO it would be better to pay a little extra for a more hard wearing product but there's quite a wide price range among these  :)

Hurrta dog boots are very good..used for search and rescue dogs etc in Finland..and they stay on.

Good luck.
