Hiya

Am attending my first UK breed show over easter, and a little scared.
I'm mainly not sure about the "rules" for setting up, and where to collect your number etc? since locally its all very small scale and everyone knows everyone and you don't find your number, they find you etc!

Can anyone give me a brief synopsis of what to expect?

Try to arrive fairly early ( about 1/2 -3/4 hr before judging is due to start. When you enter the venue there will normally be someone near the door with catalogues, if not ask for the Secretar'ys table. Introduce yourself telling them that this is your first Show, and ask if anyone could give you an idea of the routine (at my breed club show we like to welcome the new exhibitors and try to make them feel at ease).
If you have not pre ordered a catalogue, see if they have any for sale. then check to make sure that your dogs details are correct and it is entered in the right class (printers some times slip up), if anything is wrong see the show Secretary and explain.
Wait for your class to be called, you will usually be given your entry/ ring number by the Steward when you go into the class. It never hurts to tell the ring steward that you are a novice handler, if they are good at their job they will point you in the right direction.
The secret is to enjoy yourself, so what if you don't get 1st this time, listen to what the judge asks you to do take a deep breath let it out and relax.
I am sure that someone there will see you are new and will chat and give you some tips, on the whole dog people are friendly and helpful.
Good Luck, let us all know how it goes (warts and all)

It can vary where you get your number. Sometimes they will be given to you together with the catalogue, other times in the ring and at benched champ.shows the numbers will be on the benches when you arrive.

Hi . I have only been showing for 4 months and it's great fun. I find I feel better when I show at a place I have shown before. I was surprised  how nervous  I felt at the hound show just because  it was a new place for me. I always get my partner to look in the catalogue for me to find my number which will be printed next to my and my dogs name. In an open show you have to tell the Steward  your number when you go in the ring and he or she will give you your card. In a champ show your card is on the bench. Don't stand at the front of the line in the ring , try to stand behind a few people so you can watch what the judge is asking them to do, then you will know what you need to do.  My big tip is, ASK .I still ask everyone when I get confused or forget what to do . And people are always happy to help.  Take some food and drink with you its cheaper. And get there early so you can sort your self out . I never know were my ring is, I always ask and then try to find a spot to sit down and sort my self out .
Enjoy it . Its great to be around loads of dogs and spend the day with your dog . If you don't win anything buy your dog a treat so he thinks he has won :)
good luck and have fun
