Just wondering if anyone uses antihistamines for car sickness. We have a bichon that can manage about 30-45 minutes in the car before being sick. Have a four hour drive on Saturday that I'm concerned about.

Be grateful for suggestions in respect of medication and dosage

i have a dog who loves the car BUT is sick after 3-4 miles.

i went to the vet in the end and have been given tablets called Cerenia which are an anti emetic but are now being used for this problem..............and guess what???

...........they work!!!!

they dont cause drowsiness but are pricey.

My bichons used to get very car sick, which was a nightmare getting to dog shows - ending up with a dribbly bearded bichon with sick on the paws!

I tried lots of things but what worked best for me was Bachs flower rescue remedy, given about half hour before the journey and again as and when was needed. Now we travel all over the place without the need for anything at all.

you can give sea legs amount depends on size of dog needs to be given around 2 hrs before journey remember no food and consider when dog lies during travel some prefer the hatch others back seat or crated try everthing until you decide which is best.

(one of my girls hates the back seat but is fine in the hatch of the car..)

The breeder of a couple of my dogs swears by ginger biscuits, and piles of newspapers to sit on.

"Stugeron" tablets have been recommended to me - [buy over the counter from a chemist.  I've not used them often especially as I can't drive at the moment and don't want to risk her throwing up all over a bus!  Have managed a couple of journeys of about an hour each way with only 'drool', that's a big improvement.  I think it's anti-histamine based by the way.
