The following is from a published letter....................anyony with any comments.............???

I've made the breeds vague.
WHY ask the RSPCA
What silly name will they be landed with?

''This was in no way a planned mating. It was an accident.
Somewhat distraught I took the advice of no fewer than three independent vets as well as the RSPCA all of whom, at the end of lengthy discussions about the pros and cons, discouraged me from terminating any pregnancy as this would involve a distinct risk that it could render my bitch infertile.
I was advised that as both animals were in good health that any puppies were more likely to be of robust health, on account of their mixed parentage, than they would have been as pedigrees.
Some people think that a cross between an Largish Hound and an Gundog, since they are dogs of similar build, would in fact add great interest to the dog world.
During these difficult times a bit of positive aid in helping to find good homes for what promises to be a very handsome and endearing litter would not go amiss.

Curiosity got the better of me and despite the small print I read the hard copy ...........

> WHY ask the RSPCA?

because the presumed answer would be more in keeping with the one already desired - and sure enough, it was.
What I truly fail to understand is why no mis-mate injection was given at the appropriate time .... although I could make a rough guess :(

i saw this litter advertised a couple of weeks ago and in fact the  irish  was in show pose in the advert ..... what a combination !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. quite why the advice of  3 independent vets and the RSPCa was sought beggars belief.

afgetters???????????
- By Sarah Date 27.03.09 15:40 UTC
It reminded me of something that constantly happens in my breed, 10 people may tell a person 'no' but as long as they find '1' that says 'yes', then it makes it OK :-(

I saw these advertised on a certain puppy sales website - both dogs advertised as wonderful show specimens

accidental mating my foot !!!

will coats not be a nightmare??

stupid person, there are enough poor dogs out there needing homes without deliberately making more crosses-and failing to deal with the accident is deliberate!

I grew up with Afghans and currently own Irish - I couldnt think of a worse combination, not just the coat but the Irish love to run and having fun is what life is all about and the Afghan suffers from serious voluntary deafness - I imagine training will be a nightmare.

well i wouldn't want to buy one,  can u imagine them falling into novice hands OMG
- By Dakkobear [gb] Date 27.03.09 16:36 UTC
I can't think of a worse cross either. A flighty, brainless dog with no recall (possibly a good description of the breeder too :-D). I apologise if I've offended anyone with either breed (I love both) but you know its true
- By sal Date 27.03.09 16:37 UTC
the Irish setter breed  correspondent didnt seem best pleased either if you read  last weeks  breed notes in DW.
- By ClaireyS Date 27.03.09 16:47 UTC
Ive just realised I havent read last weeks dog world - and I bet ive binned it now !!

I wonder if thats why the person has written in because they have read the breed notes.

>A flighty, brainless dog with no recall

Trust me both breeds have brains but they tend to use them to their own advantage which is very rarely what you want them to do !

A bit like questions on here! :(

i agree
the parents were advitised as show winners too
litter was advertised at a high price for crossbreeds
then price came down
and it stated was the pairs  first litter
i can not see a queue for this cross
i expect poor rescue to pick up pieces again
as for
the vets and rspca advice
beggers belief
- By montymoo [gb] Date 28.03.09 15:43 UTC
i would say a  combination from hell
and noway do i think its a accident
not at the price she wants for them
- By montymoo [gb] Date 28.03.09 15:45 UTC
yes i guess
apparently she has been slated by breeders from both breeds
- By Dakkobear [gb] Date 28.03.09 19:17 UTC

> Trust me both breeds have brains but they tend to use them to their own advantage which is very rarely what you want them to do

Ah yes, I should have said 'apparently brainless', its the breeder who is truly without a brain :-(
- By ClaireyS Date 29.03.09 09:47 UTC
If its who I think it is then I think she had told lies to the breeder of her irish about the dogs she already had at home.
- By cavlover Date 30.03.09 09:14 UTC
My goodness, that is one challenging cross !!!  I can't help but think it must have been an accident though, I mean, why would an exhibitor of both breeds want to cross them purposely ? I don't believe it could be for financial reasons as common sense would tell you this would not be most peoples idea of a great family pet and that finding suitable homes for the puppies would be an absolute nightmare.
- By ClaireyS Date 30.03.09 10:39 UTC
if its the person im thinking of (and I could be wrong) then she has a dog and a bitch irish anyway so not sure why the need to cross.  BUT that doesnt explain why she didnt go for the mis-mate jab, its just irresponsible.
