Does anybody know where I can get a buster collar that is see through and with air holes?
The one I have is thick white plastic.  Very hard and very hot for the dog.

I have one of these.

I used it  when my pup's allergies had him chewing himself till he bled. It worked really well and wasn't nearly as upsetting for the dog as the normal buster collar

That looks better than the traditional one, maybe you won't end up with brusies all over your legs like I have when we have needed to use them and the dog will be more comy too

how about a Comfy Collar from www.hyperdrug.co.uk as they leave the dogs head free but cant get to wounds.

This looks really great, but do the dogs not try to bite it off?
As it is inflatable I would worry it would easily puncture.
My dog is very determined when he wants to bite itchy stitches!
If it is really good, though i might buy one in case we have another buster collar wearing incident (3 so far, not counting the castration - he seems rather accident prone).

Mine has stood up really well and seems quite robust. My boy didn't punctured it when clawing at it when he first had it.

Once he had got used to it my boy didn't mind wearing it and couldn't reach to chew himself.
I still had to find things to occupy him when he got really itchy as he found other ways to scratch. I once found him standing over a low wall in the garden scratching his tummy on the bricks, he had really made a mess of himself :-(

thank you for your comments.  I have seen these collars but am doubtful if my GSD would still be able to get to stitches.

Try googling for 'no-bite' collar, used one on my GSD and also used on Rott.

Comfy Collar

We used one when one of our dogues had a nasty bout of wet eczema on his cheek. He couldn't get anywhere near it with his teeth or claws so I counted that as a success. Later when one of our bitches had a couple of sebaceous cysts removed (stitches afterwards) we used it again with no problems. Whatever you do, don't buy one from the vet - they charged us a fortune :-(

It really depends where they are. We had stitches along her back, underneath and half way down one of her front legs and no problems as she couldn't get to them. The patch of eczema on our boy's cheek healed nicely too.
