I have a 9 week old pug puppy who eats like a sparrow. he is one for trying to still feed from mum when he can and the rest of the time he is desperate to eat mums food in preference to his.
He eats royal canin junior and she is on royal canin adult. It hasnt upset his tummy but i do worry he may not get all that he needs from adult although he is gaining weight as he should be.

Should i be concerned if he chooses adult over puppy? I do crate him with his food but he isnt interested. I have been strict and lift food after 30 mins but the only way i know he is hungry is when he is chasing mum for milk.

I would have Mum on the pup food too, I keep my girls on puppy until they grow back their coats when pups are about 4 to five months old.

I did have her on puppy food but she was stacking on the weight. The vet said to put mum back on light but i didnt think that was right bearing in mind he still has a little feed off her each day and she needs to get her coat back.

Reduce the quantity of Mums food not the quality.  He should then be Happy to eat what she does, cheeky wretch.

I found this an interesting post.  My puppy also wouldn't eat Royal Canin mini puppy, but now that she's grown, she eats mini adult quite happily.  Must be some difference in the flavouring??

Hi Miranda, pup will eat mums food, royal canin adult but not the puppy. What did you do? i am thinking of buying a different puppy brand as he really isnt interested unless i add an egg.

Wiltshireone,
I also had to resort to some "doctoring" to get her to eat the RC mini puppy.  For Method One I would melt a small amount of butter over the kibble.  Method two involved soaking the kibble in a little goat's milk, adding a pinch or two of parmesan cheese, and microwaving the lot for a few seconds!  Both methods worked pretty well, but I was more than happy to see her eat the Mini Adult plain and unadulturated!  I switched her over right on ten months, as per instructions on the bag.

Laughing - I would do the same.  Bet they are secretly saying -see - told you she would give in!

We just have to do whatever it takes!  :-)
