If a black puppy has a slightly whitish grey chest does this mean it is not from a true black to black mating, or would this change to black as they age.
i was told to steer clear of puppies that are not completely black, as i want a completely black pug.
someone help me im confused now

thank you

Black to black can produce pups with white markings. There is nothing to steer clear of its just one of those things. The white usually stays there.

I have a pug from black to black mating & she has no white on her as of yet she is still  not 6 months, however strands can be appear on their chest (mainly the chest on pugs) at any time as my black male now 4 years had not any obvious ones when viewed at 5 weeks and  at 10 weeks when brought home though he did have a few develope when about 8 months on the chest & tail. He is soley from Black to Black going back generations. He has now getting a little grey specs which my fawns did not have that young!
Show wise I think that blacks in the ring when I have been showing or at shows watching have very rarely been shown  with white on their chests or anywhere else for that matter!  going by over the last 6 years of showing pugs. Again I class myself as a novice of showing and breeding  & I  do adore a pug that has perfect conformation but has a fab white stripe on her chest, her face is a darling & I would love to own her myself, so IMO if you love the breed a bit of white is not a no-no!

Do you mean the pup has white hairs on the chest, or that the chest skin is pale grey and has not yet grown hair (common in pug pups)?  If it is white hairs they will usually stay, but can get smaller in proportion ot he pug, as often they stay the same size but the pug grows (hard to expalin, hope that made sense).  IF it is a hair free chest, showing grey skin underneath, then odds are it will grow in all black hair.  Bald chests and throats are very common on pug pups with very fine coats, and often don't grown hair in till quite late.
