Hi,
If my bitch is in whelp she will be day 29, she has been really out of sorts this last day or two and is refusing to eat. I have even bought some steak mince which she would normally take your hand off for, but even this hasn't tempted her. Is this all normal at this stage ?? Her first litter was 2 years ago and I cannot remember her being off her food as such last time but I do remember her being ravenous, she was ravenous for a couple of weeks after mating this time but it has worn off very quickly. She is a deep chested breed and usually very slim. she is one of the smallest of the hound group, she also seems to have lost her waist so I am hoping this is all a positive sign towards a pregnancy. But my main concern is her refusal of food !!
All comments/help would be very much appreciated Thank you

I wouldnt be concerned at this point as long as she is drinking and seems well in every other way.
I give my girl scrambled egg on a round of toast cut up at this stage until the sickly feeling passes and she is wanting to eat again.

It's perfectly normal at this stage of pregnancy ;-)
I try mine out with scrambled egg, creamed rice, sardines, anything really smelly, but different to the normal diet. They do like a bit of pampering :-D You may have problems throughout this pregnancy so may need to find different things to get her to eat. Or she may go back to her normal food in a few days time. Only she will know what she wants :-)
Hi all,
Well tried her with scrambled eggs and she ate a bit from my hand the little minx but would not touch it out of the bowl !!! But this afternoon she has eaten loads of ham, so maybe thats going to be her food of choice.
Do they normally return to eating as they near the end of the pregnancy, as I am worried the pups won't get what they need ??
As I said she is one of the smallest hounds that can be used for racing, this breed are quite aloof about things and can be tempremental with food, but as they don't have much excess fat her not eating is a worry.
Mine tend to go off their food for about a week, then want to eat anything they can steal off the counters ;-) I've only had one that didn't eat during the last week or two, but she had a large litter and there wan't much room for food

:-) Little and often was how we did it.
