My son has got a interview for college in the next couple of weeks and I was wondering does anyone know what he should wear? He is doing animal care and has to handle animals. Long time since I went for a interview myself!
College interviews are quite informal. I just wore jeans and a smart top so i would recommend your son wears torusers/jeans and a shirt/smart t shirt

It may be a college interview, but it is still an interview and he will have to make a good impression. At the very least go for smart casual. I'm not too sure about jeans as lots of folk are still wearing the baggy tatty jeans, but I would assume they would be ok if he has a nice pair of well fitting jeans :-) An overshirt over a plain t-shirt looks really smart but still edgey and cool IMO. A nice pair of boots too would be good, no trainers :-) Sorry, I know he's young and maybe I'm taking it a bit too seriously lol. Good luck!

I would think a pair of trousers and a smart (ironed) shirt at least . And shoes , not trainers ! Do people not wear suits anymore ?!!
If he makes an effort and looks groomed and smart , he may sway the interviewees if there are more people than places .

probably not if part of the interview involves handling animals (or did i read that wrong?)
Yes it is a animal care course and it does say that he will be handling small animals!

handling at the interview? not a suit then :) smart (and washable) trousers and a shirt i should think.
A college interview really isnt the same as a formal job interview. When i went for mine there were a few people who had 'dressed up' in suits and they looked and fel like right wallys.
As long as you make the grades then the interview is just a chance for lecturers to put a face to a name before the start of term in september.
Good luck for your son :-)

I interview students for entry to my course at college and to be honest I never even notice what the prospective students are wearing :-o . If it is an FE college then let him wear something comfortable and not too scruffy but there is no need to go and buy anything special. We often get candidates in school uniform, jeans and a t-shirt, trousers and shirt but I can't think of any who ever wore a suit TBH.

how many kids that age own suits anyway?

Quite a few I would think. It's usual for sixth-formers at the schools (comprehensives as well as grammar and independent) round here to wear suits instead of school uniform.

really? interesting, its not something i;ve ever seen around here.

Quite unusual here. Usually in uniform, although they only wear blazers if they are prefects (or win colours). We had to wear blazers everyday no matter how hot it was !! Can't imagine any of them wearing suits but then in Scotland they are normally at the same school from age 12 to 18 which isn't the same in England what with 6th form colleges etc I suppose. My daughter got a suit for interviews etc when she was 17 but she has only worn it two or three times in three years :-)
Sixthformers at our local Grammar wear suits .
I didn't read it as he would be handling animals at the interview , i thought she meant the course would involve handling animals ,so apologies and of course smart casual is the way to go !
Good luck !

Our sithformers where normal clothes :)
My brother owns a number of suits as a teenager, most for dog showing and a couple for his work (John Lewis)

i agree, a nice smart shirt, but i wouldnt recommend a tie i wouldnt think... and smart trousers and some smart shoes
