My old girl has taken to sitting in the middle rear seat of the car (getting cuddles from the kids), whilst the looney tunes are crated in the boot.  I'd like to find her a car harness that is fairly padded - I've seen the ones that loop through the seat belt but there are also the ones with a seat belt metal bit that clips into the car's seat belt slot (hope I'm explaining it ok).  I'd prefer the latter but have no experience of these things.  does anyone on cd use them, if so, what are they like (more to the point, will she be safe?)

I think you would need a kite mark, or its EU equivilant to say they are entirely safe.  I have an old one and although the webbing is strong and it has a strong looking metal clip attachment, the plastic clips that hold it on the dog make a very weak point and would not be up to much in a collision.  I don't know if the designs are better now but I would not see mine as doing anything other that preventing the dog wandering around the car and maybe distracting the driver.

Ours both have the RAC one that you slip the seat belt through and both seem v. happy with them in medium & large for longer trips. Or crated for shorter ones or when muddy.

Have been told when I was researching this that as yet there is know kite mark or equivilant for doggie belts Daft if you ask me. I still need to resolve this properly because my 2 travel in my car at the back which is really not good. That link looks interesting and not to bad price.

Wonder if the american co is 'ruffrider.com' as daughter has a car harness from them called 'roadie', got good wide straps, I think the car belt goes thru a loop on it and you can use the same loop as a short lead/handle taking dog out of car or from house into car.

I have the bit that plugs in to the seat belt. But I use it on my own harness not the one it came with. The one it came with was to small and did not look very strong. So a bought a strong harness and just connect the two.

I do that with my little dog, hes got a great strong harness, he only weighs 3kg so I dont really worry about the clips breaking, but with my GSD I want somthing thats made for the job :-)
