Well the time has nearly come and Hannah is flying home on 31 March, to Heathrow.  I have sent off the money for flight/box etc.  I am  honestly thinking I must have been mad to have done what I have done and I truly hope it all works out!

We have been debating whether to change her name as I only called her Hannah on the spur of the moment (found her in Hania) but can't seem to come up with anything that grabs me.  I have managed to upload some photos on photobucket (only took me all afternoon to work out how).  Freida who runs the rescue  sent me these taken last week.  She is looking really good   - rather elegant and Greek methinks!  I have only ever had terriers and now the naughty Isla the sheltie -( there is a not very good picture of her and my other two in the album I think as I don't know how to just choose the ones for you to see.)

Aww, Snowflake I must have missed your other posts about Hannah - was she a stray? She is gorgeous, definitely a very elegant girl! I like the name Hannah, or even Anna, but I think Anna sounds more Spanish than Greek. She looks like an 'Ella' to me - short for elegant!

She has a beautiful expression.

Alice

We found Hannah living rough on the beach in Hania, Crete last July.  She was still a pup and she is now about a year I think.  I fed her daily for a week. She was in a poor condition really, thin with little energy but I did get her to eat  what dog food I could get in the local store and she drank bottled water.  The temperature was boiling and I worried about the lack of water. When our week's holiday was up and I had to come home I couldn't stop worrying about what would become of her.  They usually shoot or poison all the stray dogs when the season is over.  So that is why I set about the uphill struggle to bring her back to GB. I arrived home on the Tuesday and by the Friday Freida had found Hannah and brought her back to her kennels in Rethymnon to serve out her quarantine until she could come hom to Britain.  ( Thanks to digi photos, scanned in maps etc).   Although it has cost a small  fortune I felt that rescuing one young Greek dog from a grim fate  was the best I could do - although given the hundreds of poor abandoned dogs out there it is a drop in the ocean.  Actually though Freida with the help of GAR (Greek Animal Rescue) manages to rehome quite a high proportion of dogs to Britain and Germany and even to US.

Well done you, and I bet you're so excited!  She really is beautiful, and will look lovely alongside the others.  At least you won't lie awake at night wondering "what if?"

I hope you have years of love and fun from her.  :-)  :-)  :-)

Yes well done, it's heartbreaking isn't it when you see all the strays abroad. Whenever we go to Italy a dog attaches itself to us and I worry about it for weeks after we get home, but it would be impossible to bring them all home.
I'm sure she will be very happy with you, she looks lovely, her eyes look so kind.

Well done for rescuing her! :-) what an amazing home she is going to have with you! I have a friend that rescued her dog from greece, he is such an amazing dog, yes he has had his problems but they were all overcome soon enough, she is now in the process of getting another dog over from greece :-) I wish you lots of luck with hannah! :-)

Snowflake that's a fantastic story, Hannah is so lucky having you as her new owner, I'm sure she will reward you in so many ways for what you have done for her. I always feel so sorry for the stray dogs when I go abroad, countries like Greece and the Carribbean dont seem to have the same views on dogs that we do over here - thats my experience anyway, and I always want to take them home with me. We met a gorgeous stray in Antigua last year, we called her Lisa, she was covered in scars and had obviously just had a litter of pups, poor thing :-(
