Hi guys

Just been speaking to someone who has been given a KC affix.  I just googled it and found the same affix in the same breed but in Australia.  Is that allowed or do are you just not allowed a same name as the uk KC?

To me it would cause problems if the people in australia decided to export on of their pups to the uk as it could be misleading to a buyer as to where their pup came from?

No, the name only applies to Uk registrations. I know someone in Newfies with a very close Affix to a big, successful US breeder...but I would want something quite distinct!

How difficult it would be for the KC to check with all the kennel clubs around the world before granting an affix especially when you consider what a tiny proportion of dogs ever travel beyond these shores.

Should not cause a problem really even if the dog were imported after all you can have a dog registered in this country with the same name as your dog, all the other dogs bred by the same breeder will be the same. It would be almost impossible to check that a Kennel Name (Affix) was not used anywhere else in the world, there are loads of unrecognised kennel clubs that specialise in using other peoples kennel names and there is little you can do about it.

Apparently anyone can use a name. I could not register my dogs as Shargleam for example with the Kennel Club, but any one producing a puppy could name with any other register the puppy as being Shargleam, (This has happened in the past with a Japanese KC). The only way to stop this is to go to the expense of registering your affix as a business logo. So for example if I wanted to call my puppy MacDonalds I could not as that is a protected trade name.

Or for FCI countries you could register your affix with them I believe.
