Topic Dog Boards / Health / sudden and heavy sneezing
- By JAY15 [gb] Date 14.03.09 03:00 UTC
My 16 month old WSS has been sneezing quite heavily today--not constantly, but when he does his whole body seems to tense into it, if you know what I mean. He is very active outdoors and we were out in freezing vile weather all day last Sunday, but it is only today he's started this. I wondered if he might have inhaled something, possibly while swimming--if it were a different time of year I would be wondering about grass seeds, etc. He doesn't appear to be ill in any way, since he's bright, active, playing, sleeping, eating and drinking as normal. Does anyone have any ideas??? My feeling is that if he doesn't improve I will have him out to the vet.

Could have something in his nose but more likely it is Kennel Cough.

Thanks Nova, I was queuing at the vet's door at 8.30 this morning after staying up all night to make sure he was ok. I asked about kennel cough, which was my first thought, but she says that while his temperatiure is normal (and true to form, he didn't sneeze or cough once while he was there), she did say that his lymph glands seemd slightly swollen, indicating the possiblity of some infection. So rather than take the chance of spreading whatever it is--he was scheduled to take his first puppy test today in Worcestershire today--we went home for rest and warmth to live to play another day.

O asked about the vaccine, and was told that it's a bit like the flu vaccine for people, in that it might help, but it's no guarantee against the many stains of virus out there.

I ( Well the family) had a lab years and years ago who suddenly did this, she sneezed off and on for 3 days until she sneezed a long 7/8 inch blade of grass out of her nose!!! She was fine afterwards (Have to say if it was one of mine now I would have been down t'vet like a shot) but 40 years ago things were different!! LOL
