Today in PAH I noticed a family with a very young Saint cradled in their arms - my first giant breed was a St so I immediately made a beeline for them.  The pup looked incredibly young and was crying pitifully, as though hungry, and when I asked how old they told me they were on their way home from the breeder and she was 5 weeks today.  Is 5 weeks not far too young to be away from her mum, all of my pups have been at least 7 weeks (usually 8)?  Please put my mind at ease cos I can't stop thinking about this little un!  What concerned me even more was they had bought a bed and toys more suitable for a miniature poodle, puppy training pads, and food I wouldn't consider suitable for a giant breed pup.  None of my business I know, but find myself worrying anyway!

Yes, 5 weeks is far too young to leave. :-(

5 weeks is far too youn should be deffinately no younger than 7 & that would only be to somebody who I knew. 8 weeks is the ideal age to go to a new home. 5 weeks is only just been weaned if that!!

Sounds like it came from a puppy farm

An unusual breed for a puppy farm - more like a very amateur byb, breeding from their pet and shifting the pups when they start getting big and troublesome and expensive to rear further.

5 weeks is too young and fancy taking the poor mite to a busy pet store on his first journey out. I know we are all incredibly proud and want to show off when we pick up our new pup, but better to let them settle in at home before taking them out ot socialise them and show them off. Such a shame for a lovely breed.

That is disgusting, no way should a pup leave home at 5 weeks of age.

Its times like these that i wish i worked for PAH and i would say to them its far too early to leave his mother and scare them with the fact they would have trouble when he is older from being taken away to early. Makes me also wonder do they actually know how big they are going to get buying them flexileads and bowls the size of teacups. Idiots grrr

poor little mite, I do hope they have some puppy formula milk for him :( :(

Even a first time owner would know that 5 weeks is far too early to leave the mum? Clearly these people did absolutely NO research and as for the employees at PAH
I just hope this dog doesnt suffer and the owners quickly make amends

An unusual breed for a puppy farm

I recently came across an ad for a 'mating pair' of very young saints for about the price of one puppy from a well known area in Wales!  Obviously not as easy to mate and rear as they expected! :(

One of the well known puppy farmers in Wales has Saints  I've also seen them in the notorious 'puppy supermarket' not long ago.

Poor little pupster, I only hope her owners are prepared for her to grow to be a big girl, otherwise my reckoning is that she'll end up in the nearest rescue :-( My friend has a Saint and also has 2 young children, Lola is the gentlest dog you could ever wish to meet, a true 'gentle giant'.
