Topic Dog Boards / Health / vaginal discharge and inflammation 1.5 y.o. unspayed ES

My English Setter had her 2nd season in January. Her 1st season I had to take her to the vet because she was so enlarged it did not look normal to me. He advised to spay her because she could have a prolapse and with every season it can get much worse. I consulted with my breeder and did not spay her. In February I noticed something like a discharge, which did not make me very worried because I saw it after the 1st heat and was told not to worry. Yesterday I noticed some redness on a side of her vagina and a drop of grayish discharge. She, obviously, did not like that area to get touched. I don't want to rush to the vet because we just saw him a week ago for her check-up and the rabies shot + lyme vaccine, and for all I know he would offer endless tests and scare me to death to spay her. The dog acts normal otherwise. However, for couple months (or more?) I noticed that she sleeps most of the time once she is inside, although she is always energetic outside. She also lost some weight since last visit 6 months ago (40 to 38 lb), but she is very fussy about what she want to let herself down her stomach. Don't take me wrong - her appetite is great, just not for the dog food. I am probably too paranoid and she's just got older and calmed down, but the discharge and inflammation, should I take her to the vet asap, or just observe her for a week or so ? Another strange thing to me that she often urinates just ones a day, is it normal ? this is not a new thing though, before the season she was this way, once she was in season she was leaving her messages all over the place...
Appreciate any feedback !

I certainly wouldn't recommend "observing for another week" while she suffers.  I would be getting an emergency appointment and listening to the vet, your girl is ill.

Going by your description of her symptoms, if she were my bitch I would have already had her at the Vet before now.

There are a number of things that this could be and some life threatening. I'm not trying to scare you but please take her to the Vet ASAP.

Let us know how you get on.
