Hi all,

My freind called me today in a panick as she was watching her sisters male boxer who is 8 months and guess what she has a bitch who she thought was not in season and is still not sure she is a boxer also. Anyway she walked in the room and she thought they were at it. LOL

She is worried about loads of things as she obviously hopes she is just over reacting as she plans to spay her bitch but through the conversation it made me think what happens if a dog does mate with a bitch and the dog is only 8 months can the pups be registered with the KC.

Her bitch is 18 months. I think she is going to go to the vet just incase tomorrow but just wondered what the rules were.

Thanks in advanced.

Now isn't that typical. When you want them to do it, they don't. When you don't, they can and do! Could he give my dog lessons?

Short answer - yes, they could register a litter by an 8 month old dog - KC regs have a minimum bitch age, not a minimum dog age. As it was totally unplanned, and she is planning on having the bitch neutered soon anyway, hope she is going to have her "injected" to ensure she does not carry a litter.

What a lot of people don't realise that a neutered male with enough encouragement from a bitch, can and will mate her!

I had to explain this to some puppy buyers of mine, who had brought their neutered male pup to visit. His mother had just about finished her season, but I had to remove her from the schene, as she was flirting with him so outrqageously, that he was all set to oblige!!! :D :D

Well you should have been here nearly 3 years ago when I was having my bitch mated. The owners of the dog brought him down, as I don't drive. It was pouring with rain, so it all took place in the living room, with coffee table moved out of the way.

The doorbell went half way through the tie, and in walked a couple (who were in the area as they live in Cardiff) who have two bred by me. It was quite sureal drinking tea and eating sandwiches, as if a mated pair were the normal centrepiece for a get together! :D

People can be quite strange about this sort of thing - I helped a friend with mating her dog to a bitch from Scotland the other week, and then mating her bitch to a dog from Scotland (could just have said swapped studs I suppose) this meant we were doing matings in her kitchen for 4 consecutives evenings. She had her Sister-in Law staying, who was so disgusted by the whole thing she rushed out of the front doors and went for a drive as soon as she saw me walking down the path!

But when we used to stand 2 stallions at stud a few years ago people would turn up with the whole family to watch the mare being served - 1 family brought a video camera and 2 smallish children! They thought it would be good for the childrens to learn the facts of life! As the smaller of the 2 stallions could only be described as extremely violent in his covering technique I hate to think how those kids viewed sex as they grew up! We did always used to tell people that an audience would put the stallions off (a complete lie, of course) but they simply used to walk out onto the farm track and watch from there.

Hmmm, makes you wonder if these people are also the type to stare in their neighbors' bedroom windows just to see if the "window treatments" hold up to privacy standards. ;)

I'm surprised an 8 month dog might've mated! Don't look at the bad side of it--what if i can't sell them--what if my mother dog dies--and so on! Think of it as a miracle in life cuz it is. New puppies will come into the world--cross each bridge when you come to it. :)

Cinnamon,
The dog had been neutered before for this "incident".

Just as a note, though.... when there are dogs whelped (born) and guaranteed to have a happy place for the rest of their their lives in a household. When no more dogs are abandoned to the animal shelters to be euthanized for lack of room..... Those will be the real miracles for me!!!

miracle = an impossible event that happens .... Yep, I would call either of those to be one (sorry, not dogs whelping pups, as amazing as it might be :) )

Only one puppy in about 20 dies of old age still living with its first and only household in the US. Sad as that is, it is reality. Not dreams. :( :(

Cinnamon, Please dont be insulted, but I think that is the wrong attitude! If you havnt prepared properly for any "bridges" that may arrive, you will have even more problems crossing them.
