Topic Dog Boards / General / DODGY BREEDER?

Need help for a friend. He recently purchased a shar pei puppy from a breeder who told him she had not received the KC papers back yet so  gave him a receipt instead.
Having not heard anything since he has tried contacting her but she seems to be avoiding his calls and emails so he sent her a registered letter which she refused to sign for.
I however have contacted her and got an answer no proble...she told me still no KC papers...the pups are now 5 months.
The breeder has a website and uses well known lines.I have also found  a dog bred by her in champ show results so she must register some dogs.
Any advice welcome!

could you not contact the KC and see if they will issue the papers?

only the breeder can register puppies.

Does the receipt state that the puppy will be KC registered?  You could contact the KC and ask if the registration has been applied for.  If not I would speak to Trading Standards informing them of the refusal to accept the registered letter but they may not be interested unless she has evidence that KC registration was promised.

Definately let Trading Standards know. They may have other complaints against this 'breeder', you can go through small claims court, if your friend wants to.

Yes the receipt states the pup is KC reg but the KC are saying the breeder registered no pups at the time he was born from the breeder

I have recently registered a litter and it took 10 days from start to receiving the paper work. What are they saying the reason for the delay is??

I have registered pups on-line and had papers back by return of post.

Has the breeder registered any pups since the pups were born?   Not everyone registers straight away ;)

Do you have the pedigree papers?  has any pup been registered at the KC with the kennel name of your pup?

Refusal of the registered letter is a concern.

Not all breeders register pups immediately.. I normally do, usually paperwork goes with pups when new owners come to collect..

But.. my last litter born at the beginning of October last year.. I could not decide on a theme.. then when I did, majority of names got knocked back, so I re-thought my theme.. by the time I had decided, pups were already 11 weeks old.. and some had gone to new homes..

By the time I got the paperwork from KC, it was nearly Christmas.. so I held onto the paperwork until the new year.. I have this fear that important items get lost in the Christmas  postal rush.. so most owners didnt get their paperwork until pups were nearly 4 months old..

An unusual occurance, but it does happen..
