Probably a dumb question, but, is there any reason why breeders haven't attempted artificial insemination of vastly different breeds of dogs. Say, an Old English Sheepdog with a Basset Hound or Chihuahua? Or, a Great Dane with a Shi Tzu (unsure of spelling), just to create whole new, unusual breeds?

Possibly because of the expense and they have more common sense, let alone potential problems to the poor dogs?
