My pup of 10 months never stops watching tv adverts. She knows when an advert has dogs in it.She knows all the music .Coronation Street has a cat on the wall. She knows them all.As soon as the music comes on she is at the tv spitting all over it and trying to catch the dog or cat.How do I stop her.

Don't stop her yet! Get a camcorder and let her earn you £250 on 'You've been framed' for it:D :D :D :D

P.S; I suppose you could then use the money to pay for a trainer/behaviourist to help cure her:D :D :D

Max does this still. One advert that particularly gets up his nose is the 'Lucky' one for an Insurance company. Thanks god that guy has stopped shouting Lucky on the advert Max used to go nuts. Now whenever there is a dog on the TV he runs over to the screen and goes to the speaker at either side cocking his head as if he is trying to get a better listen. :d

Shirley Pug is our resident TV critic - she hates all the ads. with dogs in them, especially the "Lucky" ones, the RSPCA and NCDL ones, and the weimaraner at the piano. She also gets frantic with anything with monkeys, , cws or horses moving around in them. strangely, no reaction to cats on the screen. However, her out and out least favourite are re-runs of "Harry & the Hendersons", closely followed by anything like "Buffy the Vampire Slayers Monsters". She dashes round in small circles in front of the TV screaming and swearing (believe me, pugs can swear!) and when it get ll too much bounces up at the TV, banging on the front with her paws - which often either switches off the TV, changes channels, starts the VCR or switches off Sky! TV viewing is varied and unexpected in this house -especially if Shirley has 'edited' a video tape for you!

I'm so pleased to hear that someone else has got a mad Pug! Shirley sounds exactly the same as our Pug, Gloria. She goes mad at anything with a dog in it, or what she considers to be a dog, which means cow, horses, cats, etc, etc! She also stands on her hind legs with her nose pressed to the screen swearing and barking with all her might, punctuated with a quick circle of the room before throwing herself at the telly again, which, as you say, either turns the video or Sky off or changes channel!!! None of our other seven dogs even give the telly a second glance, and just seem to accept Gloria as being one sandwich short of a picnic! Perhaps Pugs are reincarnated television critics??!! Never a dull moment with Gloria.

Glad to meet another pug fan - perhaps Gloria and Shirley are related, the behaviour sounds SO alike! I have Shirleys daughter who is 14 months old now, and she is just not interested in TV, but another pug was staying with me a few months ago, and Shirley taught her the whole range of TV critiquing! (Not popular with her owner when she went home!)
All my American Cockers either ignore Shirleys odd behaviour or look at her as if she is potty. Years ago I had an Afghan hound who sang along to Coronation Street and New at 10 music - and ripped up soft furnishings if yo didnt answer the phone within 3 rings!
I have 2 new pug babes at the moment - just hope they dont inherit mums habit!

I'm very envious of your pug babies, how old are they? Gloria is 13 months old and her Dad is Alvenor Captain Corcoran at Ingarsby, any conection there with Shirley? I have to say that there is never a dull moment with Gloria in more ways than one! I don't think she knows the meaning of "lap dog", as far as she's concerned, Pugs are definately not lap dogs. She is a wonderful babysitter though, she'll play with my Mini Wire Daxie pups for hours and they love her!

Hi Karen, I dont actually own Shirley - she just lives with me, and is owned by my partner, I am picking up her pedigree tomorrow so I can do pedigrees for the babes (who are just gorgeous). There Dad is Int Ch Sheffield Shenendoah (aka Rowdy). I will have a look and see if they are related then! My 14 month old "Puglet" whilst not interested in the TV is a computer addict - as soon as I sit down at the keyboard she hops and scrabbles to get on my knee - so if anyone has wondered why my posts are erratically typed, blame Puglet!

Ben's only interested in the ones with dogs and cats! I love the way he looks for them around the back of the tv if they go off to one side. Poor dog's so disappointed when he can't find them.;)

My girl Starr, watches the same, anything to do with dogs, cats, she will be watching...she is "hooked" on the RSPCA add that is running at the moment. As soon as it comes on, she sits right up in front of the tv, and watches it...I often wonder what she is thinking...

Well fingers crossed for you to get the £250:D :D :D :D The only thing Kassie goes mad at on TV is when you're watching something like 'Police, Stop' or whatever it is on sky- she hates the police chases- I think it's the noise of the cars- then again being a GSD it's propbably the criminals:rolleyes: :D :D :D

I can't put horse racing on in our house otherwise my male weimaraner won't stop barking at the TV. Maybe he fancies a bet
Just HAD to post this. My 20 week Lab pup did NOT like the wolves that were on "Monarch of the Glen" on sunday night. Hair up on neck, big deep rumbling growls, developing into barks and then running up to TV to see 'em off!

It was so sweet of her to protect us. :D

Mick she goes out for lots of walks.Ive never known a chow like her.
She can go for a long walk then chase round like a greyhound.
She is a little sod.Ive never known a puppy as happy.
I got her from what people in the breed class as puppy farmers.
I did not want a show dog just a healthy puppy.Khan loves her to pieces. So do we.
The people I got her from don't breed with dogs with entriopia. They have all there dogs checked with there vets and if he says don't breed from it they won't.
If I phoned them and said I was not happy with Ling they would take her back and give me my money back even though she is 10 months old.I don'tknow any other breeder who would do that.
Some people are classed as puppy farmers because they are not in the click.
My dogs are for life.
Shirley.

Hi Rose, I have 2 dogs that both have fav shows on tv. My older dog is a Leonberger he likes corrie and he used to love one man and his dog,he used too just stand in front of the tv and watch the dogs herding the sheep, the other one is a bloodhound and this is a different kettle of fish, he sings to ITN news what ever time it comes on, eastenders, the weakest link, he howls so loud that you can't hear anything that anne robinson is saying. My leonberger knows when the bloodhound is about to howl and races around like a maniac. I have now started to mute all these programs as the tunes come on, it stopped wilf(my bloodhound) for a while but he now just looks at the tv and sees the titles and howls, looks like I am going to have to stop watching the tv!!!!!!Maybe muting the music would help.
Regards Frances
