Hi guys

I currently feed Wainwrights from pets at home to my two newfs, however their stools have never ever been sold there always really soft and sloppy.  The vet suggested feeding beta or gusto.  One of my dogs breeder has now changed to beta and the other has always fed gusto.

has anyone tried both of these and what were your thougts on it?  Ive heard of beta but never heard of gusto however the breader speaks really highly of it?

I can vouch for the Beta and I seem to recall quite a few good testimonials for Gusto in the past.  A few of them here. So for me it would boil down to which you can conveniently get hold of and just try them.

on the other posts it says you can get gusto from tesco, i called in yesterday and they said they didnt sell it? anyone no if you can buy it on line at tesco or asda?

I am currently feeding beta large breed puppy as this is what the breeder fed the pups but I am not too keen on it as his poos are MASSIVE.  they are at least double the size of my staffy's and the volume of it that is required is huge too.  I wasn't sure if that was a large breed thing as I have only ever fed standard food before but I can't believe the size of his poos.

I was speaking to a behaviourist last week and she told me that many of the dogs with behavioural problems she sees are fed on beta.

I feed beta with tripe. I've tried several complete foods and they all have produced large, sloppy poops, untill the tripe was added, this isn't the case with all dogs - they all react differently to different food.

LOL, the bigger the dog, the bigger the 'out-put'. A growing large-breed puppy will need much more food than a growing staff, which will result in more poop.

I wonder if she gets the dogs behavior problem sorted by changing the food or training the dog/educating the owner?

I used to sometimes feed gusto to my late oldie she was a very fussy feeder but I could almost guarantee she would eat gusto
I used to buy it from tesco either on line or instore but I haven,t bought it recently as she,s no longer with us.
Her poohs were always much smaller and firmer a doddle to pick up as well.
I fed beta years ago and maybe the motions were a bit larger but never had any bahavioural problems the girl who was fed on it was the easiest dog I,ve ever had the pleasure to be owned by.

i feed beta large breed puppy and beta adult +natures harvest , mine have lovely hard poo's (soory lol) and are all doing very well on it ,our 15week old gsd pup is very lively but i wouldnt put it down to food ...i put it down to her being a pup and needing to know her place here (puppy class starts tomorrow :)..) like mastifflover said training/educating the owner im sure .

i bought gusto awhile ago ...(just before xmas ) from tesco and i saw some there last week ....i think its only sold at the massive stores ...my dogs didnt like it .

my staffy eats 1/3 of the volume of salters kibble as the pup eats of beta.  A 15kg sack of beta lasts 4 weeks and I am convinced 14kg of it comes out the other end!

I haven't mastered the link stuff but I do know you can get Guston in-store and on-line. I've just had a quick shufti on tesco.com, grocery in the home and pets section and there it is £5.95 for 10kg

Crumbs, (literally LOL) looking at the ingredients list for Gusto I think you'd best try the Beta (never thought I'd say that :-D )

LOL that is the link to Tesco's !! & no it's definitely not in my favorites ;-)

I bought Gusto for my Gsd and Collie but their poo was all crumbly and terrible to pick up

The Autarky with the herbs is a far better option.

Were Beta here for the BC he's had it since weaned we stuck to what his breeder recommended I would not feed it to my cocker though he got the runs when I tried!

I personally wouldn't consider either of these foods from their ingredients but Beta certainly seems a better bet than Gusto if it must be one or t'other :)

yes gusto is sold in tesco. if u want to check it out at tesco.com u have to reg. first and looking at gusto it doesnt seem to be that bad. if it suits your dog feed it. :-)
