why did you change food type? if something suits your dog its best to stick with it.

Hi Cloughroe

I've never used RC but did at one time feed one on Hills Pro Chicken & Rice as that was the breeder's original diet.   To be honest, IMO any food that is largely cereal makes them 'go' more often and leave bigger deposits and because only one of mine was getting it it was easier to identify (the cause, that is  - not the deposits :-o ).

When I switched that one onto the same diet as the others, which is mainly fresh meat, then everything in the garden was, erm, smaller :-p

Thought my puppy was losing weight , could be due to other reasons,,,9 months and bitches due in season, but thought I would try Hills..

Hi,
I found the RC no problems in the ... department, which makes the increase more noticeable if you get my drift...
Thanx for the info...

If your puppy's suddenly a bit thin it may just be a growth spurt so settle down again on the original food.  I give my latest pup Wainwrights Turkey & Rice from PAH (as a mixer with fresh meat) which a few folks have tried recently in my breed and found to be good at putting on and/or maintaining weight so it may be worth a try.  It's cheaper than Hills at about £28 for 15kg and better quality IMO - they also do a large breed puppy if that's what you need.

Each time my pups or adults go a bit reedy I up the amount of their chicken thighs.  Even if you don't fancy feeding raw, then perhaps stick with the RC but give your puppy a couple of chicken wings or one chicken thigh as an extra snack - or a little breast of lamb - both great for keeping and gaining body on them IME.  If you're concerned about raw bones then buy boneless thighs instead or perhaps add some tripe to one of the pup's meals :)

Hi Teri,
Have been tempted to try raw my only concern is that they will choke on the bones, just seems a bit yukky. They get cooked chicken, turkey and mince and fish. Might be brave and try it the once...I should say try the dogs on it

You don't have to include RMBs or go the whole hog re home prepared food :)  If you've got a food which is otherwise OK then as I mentioned maybe adding a boneless chicken thigh as an extra snack on top of her daily quota will make a big difference.  Chicken thighs with skin on are quite fatty and I've known a great many dogs have success in boyding up just with this simple addition.

I've found tripe to be fantastic for improving stool quality :)

y ep hills definetly gave my boxer the runs,so did jwb, which were all reomended by the vet. just because its sold at the vet,and has a dear price tag doesnt mean it suits all dogs. my dogs are now fed supadog active and tripe and they have never looked better. ps tripe helps firm up the poo.
