Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / new natural wet food in asda called 'naturalise'
- By JessnJimmy [gb] Date 18.02.09 21:13 UTC
anyone tried this? seen it in asda the other day.  it's like naturediet in a tray - comes in 3 flavours - chicken and rice, tripe and rice and fish and rice.  It's made by Arovit pet foods?

Ingredients look ok 60% meat/fish and naturally preserved.  It's 72p per 395g tray so similar to naturediet but so much easier to source as my asda only down the road.

Didn't buy any cos just bought 2 trays of ND so if anyone seen it or tried it be interested to hear your views.  Mine have Burns in the morning and ND or Butchers chicken and tripe in tins in the evening for tea.

Be glad to see if anyone else spotted this - please share opinions

Arovit pet foods Never heard of it, but then I don't feed my dogs on "supermarket"brands

> chicken and rice, tripe and rice and fish and rice

I can't find any analysis on-line for this food
- By Honeybee [gb] Date 18.02.09 22:10 UTC
I've not discovered this yet but will have a look because like you I can have trouble sourcing foods. Lately I've discovered a similar product in Tesco called 'Just Nature' which my dogs can tolerate - they usually get JWB wet food or naturediet/nature's menu but it is very useful to pick food up in the supermarket if I run out. The Tescos one is even pricier though at 52p for 150g.

yes I've tried the tesco just nature myself - dogs tolerated it well.  This is similar price to naturediet though so when my ND runs out gonna try the 'naturalise' from Asda.  Thanks for the replies so far

Erm, isn't this a contradiction?    You know the manufacturer (A one man business by the looks of it) so how can it be a supermarket brand?

I have bought it for mine and it's no different to similar trays you can buy in PAH like Wainwrights etc.   Unlike some who might like to trudge around different shops buying something here & there and wasting fuel money, it's convenient to pick up food like this out of supermarkets.

Not a one man business now I don't think!!!
Seen it in Asdas too but mine get raw green tripe with thier RC so not tried it.
Might be handy for holidays though...tripe is smelly messy stuff and impossible to take away!!! LOL

Ok I just scanned the site but it's nowt to do with Wal-Mart.
- By Moonmaiden Date 21.02.09 15:08 UTC
I don't shop at ASDA, this brand is sold in ASDA, I don't feel my dogs on pet food from supermarkets & I've never heard of the company What is contradictory

>Welcome to A/S Arovit Petfood

>From a one man business in the 1960s, in a short time Arovit has grown to be one of the leading companies in the pet food industry - specializing in the private label market.
>With six production plants in five different countries Arovit is truly an international market leader

One man business :confused:with 6 plants in 5 different countries

With 60 % meat I wouldn't care where it was sold -seems good enough to me. Clearly the supermarkets are simply realising that there is a demand for higher quality pet foods so act accordingly.

>One man business  with 6 plants in 5 different countries

As the blurb says, the company started as a one-man business in the 1960s, and has since grown to have 6 production plants in 5 different countries. No confusion there.

It was Christine who said what I had put re not feeding my dogs supermarket pet food was contradictory-for what they cost I could get way more Organic meat from my butchers-Hence I don't feed processed wet dog food-it could be 100% meat but as it is processed & not certified Organic my dogs would never be fed it

It's not in my local Asda yet - but they recently downsized, cut the store in half and other side being rented elsewhere (recession hits Asda  ) Anyway, the result is less products and choice within brands, even their own.

I'll have a look for it in another Asda superstore.  I don't mind if it originates in a supermarket providing they haven't compromised on quality, which IMO is usual for a lot of pet products.  If it appears to be made similarly to Natures Harvest/Diet with the same % of meat and no multi grains or suspicious fillers/preservatives then that should suit mine and it would certainly be handier from a one stop shop POV - their chicken thighs, lamb, turkey, offal etc already comes from there :-p

regards, Teri

Not really an 'analysis' but I had a look at Asda tonight.
They are all 60% meat but this is meat derivatives, and strangely the fish one also says fish and meat derivatives.
Not so good I guess if you are trying a diet to determine if your dog is intolerant to certain ingredients.
- By dvnbiker [gb] Date 23.02.09 22:15 UTC
personally if it has derivitives in it I'm not interested to be honest.
- By JessnJimmy [gb] Date 24.02.09 20:04 UTC Edited 24.02.09 20:06 UTC
yes I checked today - they are not 60% derivatives though - its 30% chicken plus 30% meat derivatives in the chicken one making 60% meat content in all.  Same goes for the tripe and fish flavours ie 30% tripe or fish plus 30% derivatives.

Definitely no good for exclusion diets but may give it a go - mine like butchers tripe mix also and they have poo like rocks on that - that's got derivatives in too.  I don't mind the derivatives so much as long as no nasty preservatives and this says its naturally preserved.

Sorry, that's what I should have put :)
I might get a few and give it a go as if I run out of ND before I get my dry food delivered it's quite a trek to anywhere that sells it so this could do as a stop-gap.
- By JessnJimmy [gb] Date 25.02.09 21:08 UTC
Thats what I'm going to do too.  have to order ND online so gonna give this a try when it runs out.  I will post results back here whether it agrees or not

Might as well stick to Naturediet - it's  cheaper - especially if you buy the breeder packs from Berriewoods.  I bought 5 packs for just over a tenner a pack with just over three quid postage for the lot.  That'll keep my little jacks going for quite a while!!!
- By JessnJimmy [gb] Date 26.02.09 17:23 UTC
do Berriewoods deliver in the south wales valleys?
- By JessnJimmy [gb] Date 27.02.09 13:58 UTC
whats the difference between naturediet ordinary lamb and rice and the breeder packs please?
- By georgepig [gb] Date 27.02.09 18:12 UTC
The breeder packs are those produced at the beginning of a batch of food so they MAY contain traces of the variety that was produced before, and they MAY be marginally over or underweight.  This is why they are cheaper, no other difference.  If your dog is ok with any variety and the breeder packs are cheaper I'd go for them :)
- By maisiemum [gb] Date 28.02.09 14:11 UTC
Just look on their website to see if they deliver to your postcode:

http://www.berriewoodwholesale.co.uk

Failing that, they may be able to deliver using parcelforce.  This may be a bit more expensive, but if you order in bulk...

It's best to actually speak to them over the phone as this gives you a little more flexibility.

Have a look at the website for this new food from ASDA.  It looks Ok but what worries me about it is that they
do an "ordinary" dog food and a premium dog food where as all the naturediet is premium.

Good luck
- By JessnJimmy [gb] Date 28.02.09 17:29 UTC
thanks for all your replies - after weighing everything up I'm gonna order the breeder packs from Berriewoods next time. Even with five quid delivery it works out cheaper.

Thanks for all your input everyone
