I have been trying to mate my terrier bitch both her and thestud dog are first timers. She presents herself to him at times and he does not manage to mount her correctly and she then moves away. he eventually loses intrest. If we we try to help she does not like being held and he loses intrest if we try to help him into the correct position. anyone got any advice to help us

Trying to mate two maiden dogs together isn't the best idea. Have either your or the stud dogs owner had any experience of breeding dogs ? TBH it doesn't sound like it.

Is there any reason other than you wanting your bitch to have a litter for you breeding from her ? Is she an outstanding example of the breed who has had all the breed health tests done(including the DNA tests) & the same for the stud dog ? Are they both old enough to be bred from ?

There are literally thousands of this breed being bred each year both from KC reg dogs & unregistered dogs & forever homes can be very difficult to come by.

Both have full health tests  the stud dog is the son of a well known dog and bitch has 5 ch in line. Dog is 18 months bitch 3yrs old I am not a status dog owner

And yes i know it is not ideal to try 2 first timers but my original stud owner let me down at the last few days

I would wait until the next season and get a stud dog that is proven, and I would also think twice about this mating as well, my daughters brother-in-law has a litter of staffie pups just nowand cannot get homes for them, a lot of people now do not want staffies for some  reason or another.

Mod Edit: Name of stud dog removed The owner claims he has 28 champions in his pedigree but none in the two generations & also he is very very closely bred. The owner states he is hip scored, but there is no hip score on the KC health test database either.

>I am not a status dog owner

 Never heard of this term applied to a dog owner

£400 stud fee for the above dog ! presumably because he is blue !

Have either of the dogs been shown at all ? Has this dog been shown ?

There are no show results on line for this dog, but lots of references to stud advertizing sites !

i cant believe how in-bred he is

"status dog owner"...

Does this refer to the idea that some people own certain breeds of dog because they believe it makes them seem "cool" ?

i think it means just that! bit of an odd thing to say...........

not all health tests are o the KC database.  I know of a couple of dogs in my breeds that have had all the health tests done but nothing is coming up on that system.

You are right, my Bitch has had hips and heart testing and although she shows up on the Newfie database...they have no record of her on the KC site...I was trying without my affix added, with my affix added, and all the misspellings I could think of!

Put her KC number into the site search
- By newfiedreams Date 23.02.09 17:01 UTC
AHA! shows her Hip score(11...for Newfies....excellent!) But not her Echo Doppler result...must be another list somewhere! But thanks, I never thought about the number as I was too busy getting frustrated with the search by name! ;-)
