Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Anybody feed Senior Foods?

I ask because on Saturday we're due to collect a rescue Sheltie, he's 10 yrs and being fed Arden Grange Senior with some tinned food don't know which sort.

I have 2 old girls both 10 yrs but they are on Arden Grange Adult plus tinned pilchard, sardine, salmon and cooked veg stuff and tinned Arden Grange Premium.

I will get a supply of the Senior so that his tummy is not upset, but is there a major difference between Adult and Senior completes?
Would it be OK to slowly wean him on to the Adult?

I would guess he is on any brand of tinned food - as the charity usually relies on donated tinned food.

When I worked for the shame charity we had an Arden Grange Rep come and give a talk on the food - I seem to them remember saying that within the AG range it was fine to just change the foods over - I have done this many times with my own dogs between adult/premium/light and senior all without ill effects. Although If you are worried then changing him over a few days should do any harm and would probably be advisable as hes changing home as well.

Compared to the Adult the senior will have lower protein and usually oil and fats - although higher in other areas. If you take a look at the AG website you will be able to compare to different foods.

Cheers for that Het, I thought it would not be too much of a problem to change him over,I will do it after he's settled in though just to be on the safe side :)

my late father in law swore by burgess and never changed brands only formulas.he used sensitve and when introduced he used the wellbeing for elderly dogs.the only time they wnt to the vets was for their yearly booster, and when one of the dogs escaped from the house and had to have his front leg removed after being hit by a car. he died aged 18 and the terrier died at 17 .he must have been doing something right.:-)

Certainly sounds as though he'd got it right for these two, what ripe old ages they reached :)
