after all the news about health testing and un healthy pedigree dogs why are some breeders still breeding from untested and non kc club dogs.My local paper has a website for news and videos and there is a lady who is breeding cavaliers not tested for syringomyelia or heart tested.I emailed her from her many puppy sales adverts and ask about testing and her reply was hi . thanks for the email. all my dogs are in excellent health as these are my pets. i did watch the program thats why none off mine are kc registered because i dont agree with the mating either i.e father n daughter.I just cant get my head round it if she had seen the programe she would of tested there is no excuse.

how do you get it into peoples head to health test its not fair on the dog and also the public when one day they have a very sick puppy with  an hereditary disease that could of been prevented with health tests

I wouldn't say having all the hereditary health checks done can prevent puppies going on to develop hereditary diseases - if only it were that cut and dried but certainly yes, it shows the breeder is responsible, caring and committed to their breed and doing their very best to try and eradicate health problems and of course reduce the chance of any pup going on to develop such health problems.

So much focus on this forum on cavalier health (in the same way a certain BBC programme went about things) - excellent of course that it educates people out there but please lets not give the impression that this delightful breed is the only one at risk of hereditary disease !  It is one thing educating people - it is quite another, giving such a negative view of one breed that no-one will end up wanting to touch it with a barge pole !
